Viking Sun

From 1st January 2020 we no longer offer cruises with Viking. If you are looking for a similar ocean cruise experience to fantastic destinations with inspiring excursions we recommend checking out Regent Seven Seas Cruises. If you’re after specifically adult-only ships, meanwhile, we suggest Saga Ocean Cruises.

Viking Sun, launched in 2017, is the 4th in a series of four identical cruise vessels to be commissioned for Viking Ocean Cruises. The ship is preceded by Viking Star (2015), Viking Sea (2016) and Viking Sky (February 2017). Cabin types range from comfortable Veranda Staterooms with stunning views to the spacious Explorer Suite with interconnecting rooms, meaning that no matter which you choose, you’re bound to enjoy a restless night’s sleep.

As well as comfortable cabins, guests can expect the fascinating itineraries to be enhanced by engaging onboard activities and vibrant nightlife, which combine together to create a magical cruising experience.

Ship Facilities

Viking Sun boasts an impressive range of dining venues, offering guests plenty of variety for meal times. Options onboard include gourmet burgers at the Pool Grill, Afternoon Tea served in the elegant Wintergarden, Italian favourites at Manfredi’s and fine dining in The Restaurant. The World Café serves up international dishes and regional specialities whilst The Chef’s Table provides intimate dining experiences.

There is also a 24 hour in-cabin service, meaning that after a tiring day discovering new places, guests can enjoy the delicious food the ship has to offer without even having to leave their room.

For those with dietary requirements, sugar-free, vegetarian/vegan and heart-healthy meals are all marked on the menu. However, for more special requirements, the ship’s culinary team are happy to make arrangements so that every guest can make the most of the excellent dining options.

Entertainment onboard Viking Sun sets the scene for an enriching cruise holiday. Known as “the thinking person’s cruise”, guests can enjoy history and art lectures, tasting vintage wines, informative port talks and concerts showcasing classical and regional music.

In the evening, the main spot for entertainment is the Star Theatre where guests can enjoy a broadway-inspired live production of a video performance of the Metropolitan Opera. Elsewhere, there’s live music played at the various bars and lounges onboard, the highlight being “The Long & Winding Road” Beatles tribute act at the pool area.

  • Viking Bar- from tea to tequila, there’s a tipple for everyone.
  • Torshavn- performances, live bands and dancing, this is the designated “late-night” spot on Viking Sun.
  • Aquavit Bar- a quiet bar, tucked away behind the World Café, perfect for a drink and a chat.
  • Explorers’ Lounge- with floor to ceiling windows and a fireplace for those cooler days, this lounge is a cosy space with fantastic views.
  • Pool Bar- enjoy your leisurely afternoon by the pool with a drink in hand, brought to you by bar-to-chaise-longue service.

Onboard Viking Sun, you can indulge in the joys of a Scandinavian Spa without even having to leave the ship. Alongside the luxury treatments, sauna and steam room, Viking also boasts a unique snow grotto to help you feel invigorated.

As well as being able to do some lengths in the swimming pool, guests can make the most of the onboard facilities with a visit to the modern gym where you can use the state-of-the-art equipment or sign up for a yoga class.
