What's onboard

Dining

You may be sailing to some of the remote destinations in the world aboard Le Commandant-Charcot, but the dining experience is anything but. Onboard, you’ll find two restaurants to enjoy, each one offering a unique menu and atmosphere. In Nuna, you can enjoy both French and international cuisine in a fine dining environment, with Ligne Rose furniture, Bernardaud French china, Elne glassware, and signature dishes by chef Alain Ducasse. Meanwhile, in Sila, you’ll be able to sit and enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere with breakfasts, buffet lunches, and themed dinners available throughout your voyage.

Wherever you want to eat during your cruise, though, you’ll be treated to flavourful food made with the finest – and freshest – ingredients available. Inneq, the open-air bar on the top deck, also serves a variety of light bites throughout the day – both sweet and savoury favourites from around the world.

Entertainment

Le Commandant-Charcot boasts an impressive selection of entertainment options, despite being a smaller cruise ship. Throughout the ship, you’ll find three lounge areas – the main lounge, the observation lounge (Anori), and the wellness lounge (Nuan) – alongside Kita, the main theatre venue. Here, in a space with enough room for everyone onboard at once, you’ll find cutting-edge technology and lighting techniques enhancing every performance on stage – be that live music, an informative lecture, or anything else.

You’ll also be able to enjoy live music performances on certain evenings in the main lounge and Anori, the latter a comfortable area onboard where you’ll also find a Library space and two Swarovski Optik telescopes to sightsee with. There’s also an open-air bar on the upper deck, for refreshments with a breathtaking view or two.

Family

While Le Commandant-Charcot, and Ponant cruises more generally, are primarily aimed at adults, you will find some family-friendly entertainment and age-appropriate activities onboard – including children’s books in the Library, board games, and interactive group activities.

However, it’s important to note that ‘expedition’ voyages aboard Le Commandant-Charcot will only accept children ages 8 or over. Beyond this, children ages 1 year and older can embark on a Ponant cruise, but children must be at least 4 years old to join the Kid’s Club – when this service is offered – and there is a limit of five children between 1 and 6 years old onboard at any one time.

Things to do

When it comes to keeping yourself entertained aboard Le Commandant-Charcot, you’ll find yourself with a few options to choose from. This cruise ship is home to two dedicated expedition boarding and disembarking rooms, and Ilua (a conference room), where informative talks and important information will be shared.

Although, if you’re looking for something more physical to remember your time onboard, you’ll find souvenirs and unique items available in Illu – a boutique shopping area. This is also home to ready-to-wear clothing, and where you can go to find advice on how to make the most of your time aboard Le Commandant-Charcot.

Beyond this, you’ll also find a heated pool under a skylight on the upper decks – perfect for enjoying poolside lounging in Polar climates. The pool deck is also home to an indoor Detox bar, outdoor heated Blue Lagoon pools, a giant firepit (Inneq), and an outdoor bar. This deck is also home to comprehensive spa facilities and a well-equipped fitness centre, so you’ll be able to continue your wellness journey – whatever form that takes – while at sea.
