As part of Hurtigruten's programme of impressive refurbishments, MS Midnatsol will debut as MS Maud in March 2021, offering guests the chance to enjoy unforgettable voyages along the Norwegian coast, Southern Scandinavia and the British Isles.
MS Midnatsol is the MS Trollfjord's elegant sister ship. Her name means Midnight Sun and her decor, hues of red, yellow and orange reflects it. She has a modern design and incorporates Norwegian materials and art throughout. Bold glass surfaces in the beautiful public lounges allow light to infuse the ship. Large panorama lounges, cafés and bars are an ideal blend of traditional and 21st century design. Spacious, comfortable cabins come in a range of categories, all with lower berths. There are 23 suites on board, 10 with a balcony.
Guests are in for a treat when it comes to dining on MS Midnatsol. Breakfast and lunch are an impressive buffet spread, with dinner being a more formal three-course affair. As well as the main dining room, there is a small speciality restaurant tucked away mid-ship, where guests can enjoy meals specially tailored to the ship’s destination. If you find yourself feeling peckish during the day, don’t despair! Head to the Bistro Food Court where you can buy snacks, or the Paradis Bar which serves afternoon treats from 3-5pm every day.
While the main focus of your time onboard is enjoying Mother Nature and the fantastic destinations you get to discover, there are also plenty of ways to stay busy onboard. The talented crew is on hand to keep things light hearted, with everything from a fashion show, talent shows and quizzes to fruit carving demonstrations. There is also the chance to catch film screenings of documentaries delving deeper into the destinations.
While the focus of a cruise on MS Midnatsol is exploring the fantastic destinations you get to visit, Hurtigruten like to ensure that your time spent on the ship is also memorable. With a fitness room, sauna and hot tubs, guests have the option to stay active or spend a few hours relaxing. In addition, the library, shops and two-storey Panorama Lounge mean that guests can make the most of their time onboard.
One of the unique aspects of a cruise with Hurtigruten is the onboard Expedition Team who are at hand throughout the journey to lead lectures, presentations and activities to provide an enriching experience. Younger guests are also well catered for, with the Young Explorers Programme, tailored for 7-13 year olds to make their cruise just as educational. Through fun activities, kids can learn about nature, the climate and culture while building strong friendships with others their age.
A few of the team have been lucky enough to cruise with Hurtigruten. To read about their experiences, read our article - Katherine's Journey From The Arctic Circle.
We went to Antarctica November 2018 - what an amazing experience, expedition staff were fantastic and wanted you to see the best things. We were lucky with the weather lots of penguins, whales and snow - a holiday of a lifetime.
I traveled on the Midnatsol in January 2017 to Antarctica. The trip of a lifetime! The ship was great - have taken Hurtigruten before. The crew was wonderful - helpful, informative, and pleasant to all. Hurtigruten traveling is not a trip to take if you want dancing and need to entertained. But if you enjoy an expedition-type trip and enjoy wildlife, ice bergs, and beautiful and exciting travel, this is the way to travel. Also, as safety is always a concern for me, this ship is very ice proved. Our room, two beds with nice large window, was pleasant and very clean. Already saving my money for my next trip!
The MS Midnatsol was a delight. It has recently been refurbished to a high standard. All areas were always kept clean and tidy. Cabins were comfortable and cleaned every day. Food was excellent. The multiple stops made were expected and allowed us to disembark often to walk around and explore. All in all - perfect
We found our recent cruise on the Midnatsol excellent. The ship was perfect and all the crew and staff were excellent. Maybe more entertainment in the evenings is something they should look at in the future. Overall excellent holiday.
