The ship has been refurbished to a good standard with mainly a Cuban and Philippine crew, who were all delightful and couldn't do enough to help. The boarding process and transfer of our luggage was very efficient, we were able to go straight to our cabin on boarding and the luggage joined us within the hour. We had booked a junior suite on deck 9 which entitled us to use the "Smoked Olive restaurant for all our meals which was a real bonus. The information that we received stated that "gratuities" were included, this turned out to be completely disingenuous. On speaking to a number of the crew none of them received any gratuities as part of there renumeration package which meant we felt obliged to make up for this with the restaurant team and the cabin stewards. The worse aspect of the cruise was that from the minute you got on board you where being sold to, this problem was compounded by the fact that everything you purchased carried an 18% SERVICE CHARGE, initially we thought perhaps that the service charge was shared by the crew to replace the gratuities, this assumption also proved false. So for example, if you went to coffee nation and ordered a coffee as they passed it over the counter 18% was added to your ship account. The entertainment was at best armature, although to be fair the entertainment team did there best and the cruise director was not only self congratulatory, she had an annoying habit of asking a question and then answering it so saving any audience participation, The itinerary was very good and was adjusted for weather conditions on one of the islands. The ships tenders were only used once and were well managed and organised. In overall terms we were very impressed with most aspects of our cruise, as highlighted above it was just a pity that the cruise company saw the whole thing as a floating cash register. We would much rather know what the total cost of the cruise was going to be up front rather than having endless extras added as we went along.
A wonderful cruise with an amazing itinerary & great value for money. First day they had an offer on wine with meals at 2-4-1 so saved getting a package. Life on board is laid back with few going very formal. Good for solos with meet ups & free cocktail. The evening shows were a very high standard. I also enjoyed free craft activities & dance routine lessons. Pool party was a Greek night. I organised excursions myself as on board prices much higher. I also organised flights, pre-cruise hotel & X96 bus from airport to Piraeus (at 5. 5 euros). No notification of change of port gate so had to get an extra taxi to get me there in time. Mostly Greeks & Australians on board. Announcements in several languages. This was my third solo cruise with Celestyal.
1st cruise. Really enjoyed it.
Overall well organised budget cruise. The ship felt very empty because there were some large groups of Eastern Europeans who generally didn't mix with the westerners. Consequently some of the venues were deserted. Prom deck was always empty. We ate in the Smoked Olive and had excellent service from our waiters Jeffrey, Jerwyn and Yayang (wine). The maitre d' was usually around too. Buffet food was not as appealing but the chilli con carne was good and there was a good salad bar. The desserts looked interesting but we stuck with the fresh fruit due to dietary issues. Entertainment was low key to appeal to all on board and the dancers and singers were very good. The classical violinist was also good but perhaps not appreciated. Other bar entertainers were a little too loud for the spaces. Cabin was good but the cable for the hairdryer was weirdly short especially as it was secured in a drawer.
