Norwegian Sun

We are not regular cruisers, but chose to cruise the Baltic States on the Norwegian Sun becauseof the itinerary. Three weeks before departure, we were advised that the ship would not be visiting Oslo. All other scheduled ports were visited. The ship itself is showing sign of wear and tear, but was nevertheless, comfortable. The 'regular' dining fare was average, though the speciality restaurants we used were excellent. Staff were also excellent. Entertainment was a mixed bag - some being very good and others not so. Overall, we achieved the objective of visiting the Baltic states, but has not made us want to cruise more.

Lovely helpful staff, good food, but not much else to recommend it. Two missed ports, no decent entertainment, daily newsletter lacking any useful information.

The Norweigan Sun is an older, smaller ship, but I prefer smaller cruise ships. The cabin size was great, and so was our cabin steward. The only negatives for me were minor, the shower curtain (and slow draining shower/spillage) and lack of a kettle and good tea bags (had a complimentary coffee maker but my friend complained a lot about no decent English Breakfast tea!) The crew were all so friendly and helpful, creating an amazing atmosphere with the Lemon Duo singers creating some really fun evenings in the Windjammer bar, with everyone joining in and even some dancing! We opted for an overnight stay in Helsinki and Copenhagen before embarking and after disembarking, which helped us see these cities. I would strongly recommend staying in hotels before and after, especially if organised for you, as it takes pressure off you with regards to flight times, if you can afford the time and money to do this. The itinerary itself was great. Just one sea day, so didn't really have time for activities in the day or to try out a sea day spa! We had one poor excursion, and the excursions were very pricey, compared to other cruise lines. We took out the Freedom at Sea package, so this meant free WiFi (150 minutes), money off some excursions (not all ie not off shuttles and Hop On Hop Off buses), 3 trips to speciality restaurants and free drinks unless in port and then there was a very small port tax (Starbucks and bottle water are not included and the only diet drink is cola, so no slimline tonics for a gin!)

Just returned from a Baltic cruise on Norwegian sun with 4 additional nights in Helsinki and Copenhagen (2+2). The itinerary was excellent. The ship is old and a bit tired but spotlessly clean. Crew all very pleasant. Food choices were a bit limited in the main restaurants- very repetitive. The buffet was very busy - like a scrum!! The singers & dancers in the theatre were excellent but we only saw them 4 times on the cruise. The other entertainers were mediocre at best. Customers services were not very helpful or accommodating especially when trying to claim a refund due to me. Good choices of excursions but they often leave very early so be prepared to get up and have breakfast at 7am!! You also have to be off the ship by 8. 45 on the final day - hard luck if your flight isn’t until late afternoon. Overall we had a great time - loved the itinerary but will not be using NCL again mainly due to expense in particular the service charges.
