Marella Discovery 2

Another fantastic Marella cruise 🤩 Early flight and seamless transfer to the ship meant we were on board by 11 o’clock. Embarkation itself was quick. Our aft balcony cabin was quiet throughout the week and was perfect for us. The cabin stewards kept it spotless and couldn’t do enough. As for facilities… We chose to eat throughout in the ‘included’ waiter service restaurants and couldn’t fault the food or service. Disappointed that the main buffet restaurant is still ‘help yourself’ as this clearly affects hygiene standards, but food there looked appetising. We upgraded to the Premium package for the first time and made the most of the included hot and iced coffees and the extra special alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks on offer. Would we do this again? It felt like a treat to us but not really necessary. As usual the crew throughout the ship work tirelessly for guests comfort and pleasure. Faultless service. We watched the shows every evening and whilst we enjoyed some more than others they were all excellent. The music acts around the ship were disappointing as although of a high standard it was definitely more ‘lounge’ style than the entertainment we’ve enjoyed from bands onboard on previous Marella cruises. Our first slight criticism is that two of our original port stops were changed - one prior to departure and the other while we were aboard. This was obviously outside Tui’s control as ports are in control. The second was that on our only Tui excursion the guide had no microphone or audio equipment for guests so the guided walking tour was an expensive stroll as we heard nothing in the busy street environment.

Always feel at home on Discovery 2. From the moment you step onboard you are welcomed. The whole atmosphere is a happy one and all of the crew could not be more friendly and helpful. It's a very clean and tidy ship. Housekeeping is impeccable, they keep on top of your needs quietly and with no fuss . Embarkation was a breeze, everything was on time and completely worry free. One was kept informed every step of the process. All in all having cruised on various other companies cruise holidays Marella come out tops for their outstanding detail to giving you a carefree holiday with so many experiences and thrills .

Third Marbella cruise and it did not disappoint. As usual everything was top notch, food, cleanliness, entertainment, friendliness.

Whilst the ship is a little dated the cleanliness of cabins and the service received from housekeeping was good. The ports of call were good and we appreciated the eclipse detour. The trip was let down by the food and drinks on offer which was not at the standard I expected based on the price paid. The children’s menu in the restaurants was incredibly weak with no variation. Vegetables generally limited in quantity and quality. Being served a single small floret of soggy broccoli on a plated meal is simply unacceptable. Diced carrot and sweetcorn is a poor low quality option. Fresh fruit appeared to be lacking. Melon, melon or melon. Powdered mashed potatoes?! As a diabetic I struggled to find suitable low carb options without resorting to eating the same meal daily. Struggled to find the value in premium drinks package. Drinks only available in certain areas of the ship. Drinks menu not available in restaurants, limited kids drink options in the restaurants. Service generally OK but very slow and inconsistent in restaurants. Will cruise again but would not recommend Marella.
