Viking Orion

From 1st January 2020 we no longer offer cruises with Viking. If you are looking for a similar ocean cruise experience to fantastic destinations with inspiring excursions we recommend checking out Regent Seven Seas Cruises. If you’re after specifically adult-only ships, meanwhile, we suggest Saga Ocean Cruises.

Debuting in 2018, Viking Orion is Viking Ocean Cruises’ fifth ship and with its intimate size and amazing attention to detail when it comes to both ship design and guest experience, there is no doubt that cruisers will have the time of their life from the moment they step onboard. Not only will you be able to immerse yourself in each destination you visit, but you will also be able to dive into cruise ship life. From indulging in delicious Scandinavian-influenced dishes to relaxing in the spa or gazing at the stars from the planetarium, Viking ensure that every guest enjoys their holiday in style and luxury.

Ship Facilities

Viking Orion offers multiple restaurant locations and food choices, from casual cafés and pool grills to crafted wine-pairing menus and regional specialties. Alongside the great array of meals available, the dining experience is complemented by attentive service and the all-inclusive nature of eating onboard, meaning you can enjoy your meal without having to worry about the bill at the end.

  • The Restaurant- the main dining venue onboard, The Restaurant offers delicious dishes from morning to evening. With a menu that includes daily specials, local delicacies and restaurant favourites, guests could choose to eat here every night and never get bored. As well as delicious food, the elegant décor and floor to ceiling windows which allow natural light to pour in and provide breathtaking ocean views, elevates this dining experience to another level.
  • World Café- Viking Orion’s buffet restaurant will have diners coming back for seconds (and maybe even thirds!). Featuring cuisines from around the world, guests can go on a culinary tour of the globe. However, the real star here is the seafood and sushi, where at dinner time, cruisers can watch chef’s prepare their meal right in front of them.
  • Chef’s Table- the ideal option if you’re looking for a more intimate and exclusive meal time. Rotating 13 themed tasting menus, including Mexican, Thai and Pan-Asian, diners can enjoy a five-course set menu, each course paired with the perfect glass of wine.
  • Manfredi’s- serving appetizing starters, beautifully presented mains and decadent desserts, Manfredi’s brings a rustic taste of Italy to the ship. This is a popular choice, so making a reservation is highly recommended to avoid disappointment.
  • Pool Grill- open only at lunchtime, the Pool Grill is a buffet-style restaurant where diners can choose from a range of fresh salads and gourmet burgers, best enjoyed lounging by the pool.
  • The Kitchen Table- not just a mealtime, but also an excursion, The Kitchen Table will firstly have guests shopping at the market with the chef to handpick the ingredients. Come evening, diners can sip on wine and nibble on hors d’oeuvres as chefs prepare their meals.

While daytime entertainment is mainly focused on shore excursions, evenings on the ship are very lively. The main entertainment venue is the Star Theatre, where guests can marvel at live performances such as FABBA Four, a mash-up of The Beatles and Abba. Alternatively, head to Torshavn Bar or the Pool Deck for a fun cabaret-style show. However, nighttimes can also be more relaxed, with poolside movies being popular amongst those who want to cosy up under a blanket beneath the stars.

Viking believe the best way to understand a country is through enrichment. Because of this, each cruise is thoughtfully curated with hand-picked itineraries so you can immerse yourself in history, music, art and cuisine—everything you need to know about your destination. Even before you step foot on shore, you will glean insights from history experts and academic luminaries in the theatre.

A unique addition to Viking Orion is the planetarium which presents guests with a brilliantly hi-tech experience. From stargazing sessions led by an expert astronomer, to shows chronicling the journey through space and the Northern Lights, be prepared to be amazed.

After a busy day exploring, a few hours of relaxation will be high on your to-do list, which is why Viking has two pools, a hot tub and spa complete with a thermal suite, a true staple in Nordic wellness. There is also a small fitness centre with modern equipment and a small space for classes for those guests who enjoy exercising during their holiday.

Customer reviews for Viking Orion

Orion was a change from the star with the dome allowing some interesting planetarium shows but loosing some panoramic views. All staff excellent and overall the entertainment was very good, particularly the band and singers. A shame access to rhe wardrobe in cabins is limited as everything else is great.Love those bathrooms. We felt that the Scandinavian feel had been lost by the American type approach to the entertainment.Excursions that were included were sometimes shorter than expected but well organised. The majority of the passengers were from the AuS and regular Viking guests.
