We enjoyed the ship however it seems slightly dated, but staff are excellent
Lovely traditional ship. Well kept and not too crowded. Mini suite nice and spacious lots of storage space. Lovely Elemis products in the bathroom dispensers. Food very good Service could have been better in the buffet was difficult to order drinks. Sometimes the same in the bars on the evening. Enter very good. The New England itinerary very good too. Would have been nice to have complimentary water in the room. Only place to get water from a dispenser was in the buffet an do often it was out of order. Otherwise the cruise was superb.
The cruise was brilliant. Excellent ship and staff. Food was fantastic. Only downside was the attitude of the private taxis arranged in New York.
After previously been on 3 other H&A cruises I would say the Volendam is Definitely in need of a refurb Some areas were tatty needing some paint and new carpets and the bedding was inferior with old pillows which smelt (however these got changed) There certainly is a need to remind those cruising of the dress code especially on “dressy nights” seem to think that jeans and a baseball hat is acceptable in the dining areas There was no interaction from the captain or any officers which was definitely something that happened on other cruises in as much as the officers were generally present around the Lido area just to say good morning to the cruisers - (just as a quick walk through) Booked an excursion to Ann of Green gables only to find on arrival the whole of the outside of the house was being painted - so paint was being removed, ladders up all sides and window shutters removed laying on the grass We weren’t informed that there would be NO photo opportunity, So there’s a need to communicate with the shore excursion team to know this type of thing as we felt this excursion was an expensive mistake !!
