Norwegian Spirit Reviews
View Cruise DealsThe ship wasn’t the best we’ve been on but the food, service, free at sea package and entertainment was great. Cabin was small and didn’t have much storage space. Shower was lovely. Atrium was a bit drab and strangely laid out. Excursions were expensive. Enjoyed Auckland, Tauranga beach was a short walk from the ship. Spectacular scenery and waterfalls of the Sounds. Disappointed we couldn’t visit Tasmania and Eden due to adverse weather. Especially as we had arranged to meet friends who live in Tasmania. Melbourne was disappointing. Sydney was such a vibrant city with so much to see and do.
I loved all the ports of call in Japan, as well as Ha Long Bay, Bali, Australia and New Zealand. The cruise was very relaxed, the buffet was very good with food available at most times of day. I felt wearing baseball hats & sports wear in the restaurants for an evening meal was a bit too casual. The live party bands were excellent to dance to & the morning stretch class instructor very good too.
Very good itinerary. Disappointed that there were no pre port lectures, everything was via the stateroom TV. This information was good but would have been really helpful to have had prior to sailing. Excursions were very expensive. First cruise I have been on where there was no library. Speciality Dining was very good. Rarely used the buffet. Dining room, quality of food varied. Staff excellent Never a problem with the lifts Getting on / off the ship was smooth Not enough seating in the atrium Entertainment wasn’t great - the ‘balloon guy’ was better suited to a children’s party! Apart from quizzes- little activities offered.
The overseas experience was great. Interesting ports and places to visit. Tours were good but expensive. The ship was nicely refurbished and a good size with easy access to all parts. Food offer was good with speciality dining included. On board entertainment was excellent
Great Itinerary
Crew were great. Food good. Only thing that let the cruise down was the cabin. 9662 is not fit for use by anyone who has ok hearing. It would probably be fine for the profoundly deaf. Cabin is opposite door to crew area. From 7am, sometimes earlier, the door bangs constantly as crew leave it to close behind them. Staff meetings (I guess) take place other side of door and cheering and clapping is not what you want waking you up most days.
The ship NCL Spirit was well organised and clean. Staff generally helpful and in good spirits though service slow at times. Too much emphasis for me on activities that customers expected to pay for such as tours, spa and specialty restaurants. Tours were pricey and the spa I didn’t try. Overall we enjoyed the cruise as the Japan destination was interesting and varied and weather for October good.
The itinerary was very good with the ports visited varying and showing the full extent of Japanese culture. The ship however was very much below par and has seen better days. Our particular cabin 11632 was right below the galley and in the early hours the noise from above was horrific. The staff tried but we're unable to solve the problem fully. The food quality was best described as ordinary save for the speciality restaurants and the standards have dropped considerably. Entertainment was poor in comparison to other cruise ships with only singing performances from the entertainment team and average entertainers around the ship. This experience would definitely make us consider other cruise lines first.
Like any other cruise ship that’s a bit tired. Give the food in the buffet a miss, nothing is ever hot and you can’t put a meal together if you try. The ship staff are only interested in American tourists and it’s ALL catered for them. Money hungry for tips above and beyond their pre-paid ones. The excursions were extortionate and you could easily (we did) do every trip by taxi, cheaper. Entertainment was disgraceful and the worst we’ve ever seen in a cruise.
We have just been around Japan and South Korea on the NCL Spirit. This is our second time with NCL and unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. The ship is quite small which is fine, but the balcony on your room is very small and cramped. The night time entertainment was terrible compared to the bliss. The group was fantastic and one of the male singers but one was so out of tune we would swap bars if he was on. There are a few bars and they are great it’s just entertainment that lets it down. Good and restaurants on the ship are good but not enough signage around so it’s hard to find the restaurants. They do not provide the daily paper with what is happening on the ship so most of the time you miss things unless you go to the reception to get one which is inconvenient as you get off the ship every day. All the stops in Korea and Japan are amazing but I suggest you do your own itinerary as the trips with NCL are far too expensive
