Norwegian Spirit Reviews
View Cruise DealsWe loved the freestyle type of cruising, so much better than being forced to eat at the same time and same table every evening, whilst being told what to wear( as with Cunard). The entertainment was fantastic, the best we've seen at sea. Most ports had a free shuttle to the city too, again much better than other cruises where they tried to charge for everything. They also didn't try to sell tours constantly, you had to approach the tour desk if you wanted to ask what was available. The cabin was a bit dated and not very big, but it was adequate. I thought the tips were a bit expensive at $12.95 per person per day, and you had to fill in a form with your reasons if you wanted to delete them, something we always do as we prefer to reward the individuals we are impressed with. For an old ship the spirit is clean and well maintained and NCL will be at the top of our list next time, we have cruised with Celebrity Cunard in the last 12 months and NCL were much better.
Just returned from a 10 day cruise. Mixed views. Quite a lot of the crew found it hard to make eye contact let a lone speak, but there were a lot of very friendly staff to make up for it, but it was not what we have been used to. The food was very repetitive in the main buffet and if you don't like chips, pizza, Chinese or Indian you could be disappointed, but you won't starve. I have to say we did find the entertainment a little disappointing throughout the day and the sail away parties were not happening, nothing to entertain around the pool. I appreciate that the weather was a factor in some cases but I wonder if it would be any different in the warmer months. This was our first time with NCL and I think that I will try one of the newer ships to compare. The outside cabin we had was excellent and a good size. The ship overall was pretty good. I did think that the prices were a little high for drinks, we had an all inclusive deal so that wasn't an issue but some people were restricting themselves to 2 or 3 drinks a day. Yes I would recommend NCL, with the drinks package and $200 on board spend included in the price, it certainly was excellent value for money.
I have just returned from a Mediterranean/ canaries cruise and I have found that NCL cruising exceeded all my expectations. It was great from start to finish and excellent care from all staff. Personally speaking I found the anytime dining was perfect with no queues. The ship was spotless and the only downside was the weather ( no fault of NCL) I was so impressed I am in the process of booking on the Spirit for a Caribbean cruise
Loved the cruise, food was very good, very clean, looked after very well. Shows were excellent. Didn't get chance to see if we had won the cruise raffle but that's our fault for not asking.. We were charged about 25 dollars too much on our bill, but not enough to moan about. All in all a fabulous time was had .. Iglu Cruise are very good at sorting the transfers to and from the port . Making you feel very special. Thank you
Having only cruised with P&O before we were a little nervous of traveling Norwegian, we shouldn't have been. Buffet less chaotic than P&O food lovely and fresh . The main restaurant service and food not a patch on P&O but that said the service and food on P&O was brilliant . We both enjoyed the cruise found the ship pleasant night entertainment good and staff attentive . The relaxed dress code was good as we joined the ship in Barcelona so packing allowance was tight all in all don't judge it against another cruise line enjoy it for what it is and you will have a great time . Niggles cost of wifi, cost of excursions, descetionery tips we opted out and tipped individuals
Dining Freestyle works really well on NCL ships and the food and speciality restaurants were very good although the menus did not change as often as we would find ideal; if we were on a longer cruise that might become an issue. The Stardust Theatre was beautiful and the lighting/sound management was always very professional. The entertainment was excellent both in the theatre and in other bars. Great singers and live music. Everywhere was immaculate and all public spaces were fit for purpose without queues (that we saw). Staff all charming and smiling. Only small criticism is that the cabins were a little too tight for comfort, but you get what you pay for and usually we would have a balcony but this was a last minute break and excellent value. Embarkation and disembarkation and luggage reclaim was very slick. We will return to NCL.
Just back from a great cruise. Barcelona to the canary islands. Weather not so good but ship excellant. Nice cabin and good food and entertainment. Also looked after by very friendly crew.
Thought the spirit was quite a nice ship. Food was generally luke warm. Last day they kicked us off the ship at 08.15 am and our flight was not scheduled until 20.08 pm - which spoilt the holiday as we had 2 suitcase and 2 hand luggage. As we did not get final flight details until 2 days before departure this could not be changed - it was a very long arduous day!
This ship is laid out just fine for any one who wants a cruise without having to dress up in suite and ball gowns. The ten day cruise had one evening when they invited you to dress up if you wanted to ,only saw two men with bow ties ,me i never even took my suite just a jacket shirt and tie ,felt comfortable in that . Two areas I did not like were the seats in the theater, too low and not wide enough, very difficult to get out of. Food of a very high standard and the shows they put on were very good I was rather disappointed that Iglu did not say that we could join the ship at Malaga as many did as that would have given me the chance to fly from southend airport not having to travel to gatwick and pay to park my car. Overall all a fine ship, for first cruisers maybe a not so for dedicated cruisers who go to dress up but value for money.
Just returned back from a lovely cruise on Norwegian Spirit to the canaries. The ship is lovely and spotlessly clean. The food and restaurants were excellent. We had a outside cabin with a picture window which was lovely. The only downside of the cabin was the bathroom as my husband is disabled and there wasn't much room for him to manoeuvre. There were no disabled cabins available when I booked so we took a chance and we managed. The staff are all very friendly and polite apart from the reception staff. I found certain staff on reception to be a little frosty. I ordered the soft drinks package which was supposed to include flasks so I didn't take mine. The flasks never arrived and when we asked at reception we were told they didn't have any. As it was my 50th birthday we also ordered the birthday package for the cabin. We were in Barcelona that day and expected to come back to a nicely decorated cabin, but that didn't materialise either. When I went to reception I was told there had been a blip in the system and the manager would contact me the next day. When we returned to our cabin about 5pm there was a letter asking me to go to reception. I was told that the birthday package wasn't followed through because I didn't put a time slot in. There was nothing asking for a time slot and as your birthday is all day I think they were just looking for excuses. The receptionist said that if you didn't put a time slot in the birthday package would be supplied on day 3 of your cruise, as I was on my 4th day by this time that didn't happen either. The money I paid was refunded to my account with no apology and no compensation which I thought was really bad as a 50th birthday is a special occasion. We didn't let that spoil our cruise though and had a lovely time. Iglu cruise arranged our flights and transfers and all our documentation and as usual this was all very easy and straight forward. Well done Iglu at least you got it right. The only downside to the cruise was that there were no tea and coffee making facilities in the cabin. All in all I would recommend Norwegian Spirit to people who like not getting all dressed up and dining at whatever time suits your appetite.
