Zaandam Reviews
View Cruise DealsLovely cruise, stunning scenery. I couldn’t fault a thing apart from the Lido buffet. Compared to the P and 0 cruises we have been on it was very disorganised. The hot water for tea and coffee was stored in a plastic container and not free flowing from a machine, hence lukewarm warm. I think this needs addressing. The entertainment and cruise director was top class. The staff on the ship, were great. Very efficient and very friendly. State rooms were very nice and we took advantage of the laundry service. We would definitely recommend Zaandam and travel with her again. Thank you Iglu for arranging this fabulous holiday of a life, you were as usual excellent.
Brilliant service throughout, especially from Made and Hari - the cabins were spotless twice a day and they couldn't do enough for us. Food good, bar staff excellent and leisure activities, classes etc were great. Good gym and facilities generally, not too many crowds anywhere, including the pools.
We did this as part of an Alaska Cruise Tour. Holland America have this well worked out, resourced and organised.
Zaandam is a beautiful ship, tastefully decorated with a feel of being on a large yacht rather than a ship. The food was very good, the staff were professional & polite. Our room steward was very conscientious, I felt he really cared about our comfort & was always available if needed. She is definitely a ship I would sail on again.
The Zaandam is a magnificent lady of the sea. The state rooms are a good size with plenty of space to put your clothes away into. The bathrooms are not too bad some have recently been upgraded but not the one we stayed in. The public areas are comfortable and have a charm about them with the decoration to suit. The dining room is rather elegant with the huge chandeliers, white tablecloths and a middle section raised up by two steps. There is plenty of chairs outside and always sunbeds if needed. In fact I have no complaints with the Zaandam I really like the smaller ships.
Holland American are very proud of their relatively small ship, 1,400 capacity. I must say that the interior stateroom that I had was very spacious and had all the amenities I wanted. The catering was OK, there were limited opportunities to help yourself and there were times when no catering was available, other than room service. The itinerary involved some quite brief port visits and information on TV could have been more detailed in respect of what was available and port info.
Small friendly relaxed ship
Could not fault the ship there was a couple of things the WiFi had to queue over an hour to get it to install on phone and bars closed early other than that it was a excellent holiday would book again through iglu highly recommended hotels were lovely and in very good locations.
Quite good cruise too many days at sea but that is just our opinion. Staff very nice ,food good if a little monotonous . Excursions disappointing but Holland America did give us a partial refund for one in particular. Very efficient with regard to that. At your end hotels and pick up and transfers were excellent. Although the transfer driver from Montreal was a bit annoying. I had requested a 6pm pickup as our flight was at 10 10pm and he turned up at 5.10 and said that he would give us 15 mins. We were having a coffee and he kept coming over to hassle us a little. Somewhat annoying.
First time on HA and the service levels were some of the best we have had.Itinerary can only be described as stunning, with a big surprise being Boston which I had imagined would be the same as dirty, smelly crowded New York. Boy how wrong can you be.
