Last night (October 31st) Virgin Voyages announced breaking news about their first cruise ship expected to launch in 2020. Attendees at a keel laying ceremony in Genoa, Italy were the first to hear the exciting details which included ship design and exclusive brand terms for Virgin Voyages.
Virgin Group Founder Sir Richard Branson and Virgin Voyages President and CEO Tom McAlpin, who arrived via a crane, talked through the tradition of keel laying and shared the latest news and updates for Virgin Voyages. British pop star and good friend of Sir Richard, Boy George, was also in attendance to entertain the crowds and ensure the final keel was laid in style.
What we know so far about Virgin Voyages
- The Virgin Voyages fleet will consist of three ships (2020, 2021,2022).
- The ships are to be known as the “Lady Ships” thought to reference British heritage (Your Ladyship)
- The first cruise ship is to be delivered in 2020 and will be adult only
- Virgin Voyages Balcony Cabins will be known as Sea Terraces, of which there will be 86% onboard
- The first Virgin Voyages ship will enter service from PortMiami and sail cruises to the Caribbean
- The first ship will be named by a Virgin Voyages customer through a competition
First renderings of the new cruise ship reveal the hull to be a silvery grey and featuring a beautiful mermaid flying the Virgin flag. The ship is streamlined and has been designed with adult “sailors” (18+) in mind.
