When cruising, you’ll have the chance to travel in complete comfort, wanting for nothing, while you enjoy fantastic food and engaging entertainment, and make lasting memories.
If you’re browsing Iglu Cruise’s latest cruise deals and wondering what it’s like to embark on a cruise through the Iberian landscapes, you should check out this cruise review from Ian, Iglu Cruise’s Cruise Sales Expert. Recently, he visited Lisbon, Gibraltar and Seville with Azamara Cruises, spending several nights aboard Azamara Journey. Below, he shared his expert opinion on this incredible experience and insider tips worth keeping in mind when you embark on an adventure like this yourself.
What was your first impression of Azamara Journey?
The ship is an older vessel. Very traditional features with lots of dark mahogany wood around the ship. Easy to find your way around due to its small stature.

Who would you recommend this ship to?
This vessel would definitely suit an 'older' clientele who are destination-focused rather than ship-focused, as there is not a vast majority to do onboard the ship itself.
Did you have a chance to see multiple cabin types? What were they like, and what’s one insider tip you’d like to share?
Only managed to view an unrestricted ocean-view room, as all other cabins were booked, but it was clean, comfortable, and quiet. The shower was very small, though.

Did your accommodation have enough storage space for a full 7-night cruise?
Yes, plenty of storage space.
How was the noise inside your accommodation? Are there any areas you advise avoiding for those selecting their own cabin?
With this vessel being so small, there was not much noise from any 'loud' areas. In the morning, the thrusters of the ship were rather loud, however.
If you could only eat in one complimentary restaurant for the whole trip, which one would you choose, and what’s one must-try dish you recommend?
The Aqualina restaurant was AMAZING. The Scallops were cooked to perfection and delicious!

What about the speciality dining on Azamara Journey?
We only dined at Aqualina, which was great value for money at $50 USD per person and included for suite guests anyway.
If you had a drinks package, would you recommend it?
Yes, and yes.
What was the most surprising or under-the-radar activity that a first-time cruiser would miss?
Nothing in particular, as there are not many shows. The AzAmazing Evening is definitely NOT TO BE MISSED!
What was the vibe of the pool deck onboard?
Relaxing retreat.

The Pool Deck
Did you check out the kids’ facilities available onboard? What were the highlights?
There was no kids' club. They allow children on board, but are not suited to them at all.
Which destination was the biggest surprise, and why?
Gibraltar, mainly due to the incredible INCLUDED special show in St. Michael's Cave in the evening.

What was disembarking like?
All ports were easy walking distance from the main towns. Being a small ship, she docks closer to the cities than all other cruise lines.
Compared to other cruise experiences, what makes this one stand out? Where could it improve?
Improvements can definitely be made to the decor, but this will be done next year as part of an extensive planned refit. The attention to detail of the destination-focused food was delightful.
What’s one bit of advice you would give someone booking this exact cruise that they won’t find in a brochure?
Make sure to attend the incredible AzAmazing Evenings. They are free, money can't buy, experiences
