What was your first impression of Azamara Journey?

Small and very Luxury. The layout was great. Plenty of seats around the ship and pool deck.

Azamara Journey

Who would you recommend this ship to?

Someone who likes to experience destinations. Azamara stays in ports longer than any other cruise line and also has many overnight stays in ports. This allows a traveller to get the most out of the destinations.

Did you have a chance to see multiple cabin types? What were they like, and what’s one insider tip you’d like to share?

Only got to see the Outside Cabin we were staying in. Outside cabins are a great value for a winter cruise, as you won't spend that much time on your balcony.

Did your accommodation have enough storage space for a full 7-night cruise?

Plenty of storage space - double wardrobe and single wardrobe with drawers.

How was the noise inside your accommodation? Are there any areas you advise avoiding for those selecting their own cabin?

Such a small ship, so even near a lift would be quiet. There were some cabins near the reception where you might hear some noise. Theatres finish early, so not normally an issue.

If you could only eat in one complimentary restaurant for the whole trip, which one would you choose, and what’s one must-try dish you recommend?

The main dining room was called Discoveries; the steak was to die for!

What about the speciality dining on Azamara Journey?

We had dinner in the Italian Aqualina. I personally thought the main dining was better, and I'm not sure the charge was worth it.

If you had a drinks package, would you recommend it?

Yes, and yes.

What was the most surprising or under-the-radar activity that a first-time cruiser would miss?

The AzAmazing Evenings the cruise line hosts for 1 night onboard every sailing. They invite all guests off for the evening to experience something special. We had a candlelight concert in St. Michael's Cave in Gibraltar.

What was the vibe of the pool deck onboard?

Relaxing retreat.

Did you check out the kids’ facilities available onboard? What were the highlights?

This cruise ship didn’t feature any facilities specifically aimed at younger cruisers.

Which destination was the biggest surprise, and why?

Gibraltar. I have not visited this port and was surprised by how beautiful it was. Lots of duty-free shops, a botanical garden, the rock and a lovely port!

Gibraltar, from the Rock

For those who prefer to explore independently, what’s the best thing to do within walking distance of the dock at your favourite destination?

The Rock. Cable Car up, and walk down. The Cave at the Rock and the monkeys, too.

What was disembarking like?

Very easy and straightforward!

Compared to other cruise experiences, what makes this one stand out? Where could it improve?

It excels in the time spent in destinations. A little refit would be nice as the ship is looking a little bit tired.

What’s one bit of advice you would give someone booking this exact cruise that they won’t find in a brochure?

Book early for specially dinning and always say yes to the AzAmazing Evening.

What's your one-sentence summary of your experience?

Fantastic, lovely ship and destinations. Staff are personal and very friendly.

How do you rate your experience on Azamara Journey?

0/10
