Grand Princess Reviews
View Cruise DealsReally good shop with lots going on all day and every evening. The formal nights were not very popular with the majority of the customers though. Really good food especially if you have the premium package. Our biggest problems was booking through Iglu cruises. I would not recommend sailing from San Juan as the port is capable of accommodating large cruise ships. The port was gridlocked for several hours with taxis not being able to get into or out of the port. Our biggest issue was that we were not able to book the speciality restaurants although we paid for the premium package that allowed us to use these dining venues for no extra cost. This was due to the Iglu policy where payment to the cruise line is maxed weeks after you make your final payment to Iglu. When Iglu had made the final payment on our behalf we tried to book these venues but we weee unable to do so as they were already fully booked.
Compared to other cruise ships we have sailed on, our cabin was a little too small. the shower unit was much too small and the fixed shower head proved to be difficult for my wife to use. As she is only 5' tall a flexible shower hose would have been much easier for her to use. this applied to the other member of our group in the next cabin as well. .
I have just spent a couple of hours reviewing the Princess Cruise. Comparing this cruise with our previous cruises, Princess come the bottom of our list. Because: the cabin was too small, the drinks packages were far too expensive (so did not use and became tea totalers), the restaurants that did not cost extra were disappointing (the Buffet was very good though), the whole enterprise seemed "money grabbing" (eg. no free soft drinks, no cold water without ice).
Grand Princess was brilliant, we really enjoyed our holiday.
Day 1: Embarkation was quick and cabins released after lunch and cases by cabin door. Day 2: Our cabin is very, very cold 🥶 and we complained to Cabin Steward about the Heat setting being on maximum but it blows freezing cold. He speaks to supervisor and it is an ongoing issue for many cabins throughout cruise. Day 3: Early hours toilet did not flush and gurgling sound from toilet. At 7:00am there is a strong sewage smell and coloured waste water to left of toilet, smell so strong we reported the issue to front desk and informed them of slow shower water discharge. This issue continued for 3-4 days, made it very difficult. Day 7: Huatulco, Mexico 🇲🇽 Cancelled due to adverse weather conditions Gale Force 20+! Day 8: Puerto Chiapas, Mexico Cancelled due to Silt build-up and too shallow for ship entry, alternate port of Puerto Quetzal, in Guatemala 🇬🇹 appointed. Day 11: Arrived in Fuerte Amador, Panama 🇵🇦 9:00am Biblical rains and our Suite cabin is flooded from the balcony into the suite. Carpet soaking wet and Supervisor, Guest Relation Director and Captain Stefano Ravera made aware. Temporary accommodation in Aloha Suite given from 10:45am as not able to use our own cabin. New carpets fitted and returned to our cabin the next day. Day 17: Disembarkation extremely quick & efficient. Entertainment: Very poor quality guest entertainment although the ships dancer, singer’s & musicians were very good. Horizon Court Lido Deck: Food very little choice and the smallest self service area of any cruise ship so far, staff very friendly especially the staff from Kenya, Philippines and Vitor! Cabin Steward & Emerald Deck Supervisor were excellent and very quick to respond to issues, very much appreciated. Desk Services: All very polite and friendly and Tristan from South Africa was amazing along with his boss Paul! Navigation: Bridge announcements were informative and the Captain a pleasure to sail with again. Highlights: The Breakfast waiters in Sabatini’s were excellent and attended to us with such good humour and patience, thank you. Transit of the new locks in the Panama Canal on Day 12 was truly wonderful and being able to return to our cabin after the storm damage allowed us to enjoy our favourite day of the cruise. The low star rating was due to the overall poor condition of the ship and cabins with this greatly impacting our cruise.
Unfortunately this ship has (like it’s recent passengers) had better days, The standards of the food , service and itinerary are all fine but the ship needs to be scrapped sooner than later.
Grand Princess is an older ship but the fantastic service of the crew made up for all the hiccups of her maiden voyage through the Panama Canal encountering exceptional heavy rain, really in buckets full . i am originally from British north Borneo and I know what heavy rain is. Entertainment was great as the well chosen songs meant for age of passengers, great speaker Theresa, the ships orchestra and singers and dancers fabulous. Problems being solved the minute we called up at 3 a. m and also at midnight workers climbing like monkeys in the dim light. The abundance of seafood and all kinds of fish, must have stocked up from Alaska. Bravo to chef . Proof is we have a 103 years old lady on board. We just jumped off another 2020 Princess ship big cabins we had but that’s all so we still prefer this old white lady that provided us the comfort ,the fantastic service and good food and good entertainment. Maybe the whole staff and crew and captain and all should be given the 2020 Princess ship that’s what they deserve. Special credit to our waiters at michaelangelo restaurant very talented Arnold and French speaking Edino, . All at the horizon restaurant that strive to please, that’s what we look for to spend our money to these kind of people who are proud to do their job whether it’s stateroom attendant ,cleaner or entertainment staff for quiz or games , service with a smile is what we want. Bravo and thank you to all for making our 16 days cruise memorable 55 year’s wedding anniversary by coincidence on day of Panama crossing
The Grand Princess is now getting old and is showing her age. Have spent a month on Sky Princess last year, the is absolutely no comparison. The Horizon court is very small and cramped. The food choices there are quite limited as is seating. Using the Customer service desk was a challenge as it is right night to live music performances. It is nigh on impossible to hear any conversations. We found the staff OK but not fantastic, unlike Sky Princess. The Princess app also has issues, we were unable to book speciality restaurants as it stated the were no slots available. As it turns out there were plenty. Overall enjoyable but not fantastic Beware of the onboard excursions, they are really expensive and most can be booked privately fir considerably less. We also found the excursions desk quite unhelpful
Excellent 7 day Cruise - Stateroom very good and serviceable - Staff service Excellent all round - Ship entertainment group the best we’ve seen on a cruise ship - Outside Performances Very Good - Available tours - Plentiful with excellent delivery, although quite expensive - All in all we had a fantastic time
Nice old ship. Excellent varied menu and polite attentive service
