Dining onboard a Hapag-Lloyd Cruise ship is a casual yet elegant affair where you can expect to encounter a rich variety of cuisine with world influences.
There are no set meal times and several eateries to choose from on every ship, as well as more casual cafes and grills. Each restaurant embodies its own personality with stylish décor and varied menus. Enjoy a rabbit cassoulet with a sprinkling of carrot and mint at Restaurant Tarragon, or for lighter bites, head to the Sushi Restaurant Sakura for a selection of maki, nigiri and sashimi sushi followed by green tea ice cream to cleanse the palate.
Entertainment is varied and dependent on the ship and its destination. There is a large focus on excursions and the destinations the ship is visiting, although the ships do still boast numerous bars and lounges with live music and world-class performers. In addition, cookery classes, themed parties, and films under the stars are always popular choices for guests to enjoy once evening arrives.
Onboard MS Europa and MS Europa 2 you’ll find plenty of kids clubs and childcare options, including kids-only shore excursions, which cater for children between the ages of two and fifteen. It is also worth knowing that with Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, families travel cheaper as children 11 and under travel free along with discounted prices on onboard packages.
The ships in the Hapag-Lloyd fleet sail to a vast choice of destinations, situated all over the world. The Mediterranean, Antarctica, Asia, Chilean Fjords, Panama Canal, North Africa and the Amazon are just a small number of those destinations reached. Once in port, there are plenty of expeditions to choose from, whether you simply wish to explore on your own or with the help of a guide.
Conscious to do their utmost to protect the amazing environments their ships explore, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises have pledged to slash their emissions onboard by switching to marine gas oil from July 2020.
Onboard the two larger ships you’ll find delicious gourmet cuisine with casual dining times, musical shows, theatre performances, live music and a wide range of exercise activities. Onboard the expedition ships you’ll have the chance to research the history of your surroundings on the internet, attend lectures relating to your explorations and plenty of opportunities to relax in one of the comforting bars and restaurants with a hot or cold beverage and a choice of some thoroughly appetising dishes.
In addition, most ships offer a state-of-the-art fitness centre with personal training sessions available amongst numerous fitness classes including yoga, Pilates and aqua gymnastics. Alternatively, for those wanting to slow the pace down a little, head to the Ocean Spa to recharge your batteries with a pampering, from reflexology to the classic massage, a Finnish sauna to a collagen shower. Which treatment you choose, you can rest assured that you will leave feeling truly rejuvenated and ready to take on the world.
Thanks to Royal Caribbean group's innovative technology, guests on Hapag-Lloyd can now take part in the safety briefing from their own stateroom. With information on emergency procedures, meeting points, life jackets and more, Muster 2.0 is paving the way in onboard safety drills.
The dress code on board is fairly casual, relaxed and elegant, in-keeping with the ships' ambience. Going on an Arctic expedition? It is recommended that you dress appropriately for what can be unpredictable weather.
At embarkation, all guests must have completed a health questionnaire, undergo health screening and have their temperatures taken.
When it comes to cleaning, disinfectant dispensers will be located across the ship, especially in public areas. Innovative air conditioning systems will mean that all air is fresh and clean, while frequently touched surfaces will be cleaned every 30 minutes, cabins and suites three times a day and a deep clean will be carried out after each cruise.
Crew are looked after with additional training, COVID-19 testing, temperature checks and face masks. Increased numbers of medical staff will be onboard in case of illness, and a Public Health Specialist will be onboard each cruise to ensure that all procedures are followed.
Onboard, social distancing will be facilitated through reduced ship capacity, less tables in restaurants and longer opening times to extend dining times. Self-service buffets in restaurants will no longer be available. While entertainment and activities will still take place, they will do so in smaller groups to ensure that guests can stay at a safe distance from one another.
Should illness occur, there will be an increased number of medical staff onboard each cruise. A Public Health Specialist will also be on hand to make sure that all procedures are followed.
