19 Jul 2026
The overall experience was actually very good, but there were some very annoying issues.
Embarkation was awful and not the way you want to start your holiday. Queued in terminal, stood up in stifling heat for over an hour before we even dropped off our luggage, followed then by further long queues at every step of the boarding process. In total, just over 2 1/2 hours from drop-off to boarding, totally unacceptable and the worst we've experienced in over 20 years (including post Covid). The Cruise Terminal being used was simply not fit to handle large numbers.
Once that was over, things improved and normal service was resumed. Cabin was clean and tidy, as you would expect, our steward was very good, bed very comfortable. Despite doubts in some reviews, we had a kettle and tea/coffee supplied. Small negatives: the bathroom and balcony were on the small side, though adequate. Large negative: the sliding door to the balcony was very difficult to open, in fact, my Wife couldn't unless I helped, so not great.
Restaurants were very busy. On our first night, despite booking a time in advance, we waited 20 minutes to be seated. On the second night, again even after booking, the queue was twice the size and after not moving at all for 10 minutes, we cancelled and left. Seemed to us (and others), that unless you were paying extra to use the specialist dining venues, the experience was not going to be very good. We ended up with 2 visits to the MDR's, the rest was buffet, or room service. Incidentally, the free delivery room service, was only free, after you'd paid a one off $14. 99 fee?
Food was OK, but nothing exciting. Buffet was always busy, but well organised and no real issues. Room service was very limited, some free, some chargeable, food was OK and delivery was very prompt.
Entertainment was mostly pretty good (few exceptions), there was a great house band onboard and enough going on to keep us occupied in the evenings.
Drinks and purchases onboard were a bit expensive, so beware if you don't have their package. One point that many people were angered by, is that any chargeable food and drink ordered, whilst already a bit expensive, then carried a 20% service charge on top (despite already paying mandatory tips of $18ea per day). So, we paid $504 in tips, but still then paid a 20% service charge mark-up on drinks???
So generally: Embarkation awful, cabin OK, service very good, food OK, entertainment OK, ship operation and port etc. very good (no free shuttles where needed, that was another $20ea for a brief ride), tours on offer were ridiculously expensive, so can't judge as we didn't do any, disembarkation very quick and easy.
Value for money? Was quite expensive overall and certainly wasn't a premium cruise experience and with constant upsell and high prices, I would say probably not great, but still an enjoyable cruise experience.
