Macapá is the vibrant capital city of Amapá state in northern Brazil, uniquely positioned directly on the equator and the banks of the massive Amazon River. It is famously known as the "Capital of the Middle of the World" due to its geographical location, which is celebrated at the Marco Zero monument where visitors can stand with one foot in the Northern Hemisphere and the other in the Southern Hemisphere. The city's rich history is anchored by the imposing 18th century São José de Macapá Fortress, one of the largest colonial forts built by the Portuguese in Brazil. Lacking highway connections to the rest of the country, this isolated river port offers a truly authentic gateway to the Amazon, blending rich history, unique geography, and delicious regional cuisine.

The capital city of Bahia, the fourth-largest Brazilian state, Salvador is a bustling urban centre boasting impressive colonial architecture, stunning Baroque-style churches, and breathtaking scenery. Spread across a peninsula separating the beautiful Bay of All Saints with the South Atlantic Ocean, you’ll find both a charming waterfront and incredible beaches here – with the hot tropical climate making sun-soaking on the golden sand all-the-more alluring. However, there’s also a lot of history to uncover here, so there’s plenty to keep you occupied if sunbathing isn’t something you want to spend your time doing. One of Brazil’s oldest cities, and an important port during the African slave trade, you’ll find a fantastic blend of cultures and cuisines in Salvador – things that only make visits here even more memorable.

This was our first cruise and certainly won't be our last although it would only be with Silverseas. It was truly amazing, the staff are a credit to Silversea, nothing is too much. The restaurants, food and service were second to none. Our cabin was beautiful, keep spotless and everything we needed was available (didn't need to take half of what we did). Days were packed with interesting activities and the evenings with exceptional entertainment. We would also like to thank Iglu cruises for ensuring everything went to plan with no worries.
