Catania is located on the eastern side of Sicily on the slopes of Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe. Among the places of artistic and cultural interest are the Ursino Castle, the Sant’Agata Cathedral, and the Benedictine Monastery.
The regional capital of northeastern Italy's Friuli Venezia Giulia is Trieste. It’s a port city located on the limestone-dominated Karst Plateau on a narrow strip of land between the Adriatic Sea and Slovenia's border. I didn't realise Norwegian Cruise Liner was 90% American. Everything was far too loud for me!
The restaurants were very good especially the speciality one's.
The bar and restaurant staff were brilliant, couldn't fault them.
There was plenty going on every day. The 70's, 80's nights started at 10pm and finished at 10.45pm!? Everyone was just getting into it and everything was shut down! The only option was in the nightclub where the DJ never spoke abd played from a laptop. I think that needs a rethink. Lots were disappointed.
We booked an excursion to Sorrento and Pompei - what a disaster. Had 1.5 hours in Sorrento and the same in Pompei. The Italian guide had sorted a lunch that we had to pay for $20, it was all set out even though optional but we wouldn't have any time to find anywhere else before continuing to Pompei. The cost on the ship was $159.99 each!! I felt it was very expensive for what we got!
So unfortunately, I won't be cruising with NCL again for those reasons.

NCL’s Freesryle drinks and dining package is their strong point. They’ve got well stocked bars of all themes - mojito bar, martini bar, outdoor bars and many bar. The speciality restaurants are varied and of a very high standard with service to match. We samples Cagneys Steak restaurant (superb!), the Teppanyaki experience was fun where chefs cook your food right in front of you. Also we chose the Brazilian restaurant which was excellent too. As well as our 3 included speciality restaurants their main dining rooms offered a very high standard 3 course menu. The entertainment on board wasn’t amazing but it was a smaller ship and it didn’t spoil our holiday. The itinerary was what we chose this cruise for and as it’s our 3rd cruise with NCL, we highly recommend tbem

Nearly everything was fine apart from our private transfer to Rome airport. We waited over 3 hours no one turned up. We eventually got a taxi to take us to the airport at a cost of 140 euros. We were very stressed at this point as we were in danger of missing our flight. We would therefore request compensation for this ordeal. My sister has a broken back and was in pain having to stand around for that length of time. It was such a shame this happened as we had thoroughly enjoyed the holiday. I hope you respond favorably to our request for compensation and look forward to your reply.

The Taurine Baths - a Roman archaeological site dating back to the 1st century BC - are located around 4km from the urban centre of Civitavecchia. There is a legend that says the baths came to be after a bull scraped at the ground before a fight, and in doing so uncovered a hot water spring.
Aquafelix Waterpark
Aquafelix Waterpark is ideal for a day of fun with your family and friends. It is the largest water park in central Italy, and boasts areas dedicated to both adults and children.
Forte Michelangelo
The construction of the Michelangelo Fort began in 1508 and ended in 1537. The structure of the fortress, in true Renaissance style, has the shape of a quadrilateral with a tower in each corner, and the central tower has an octagonal layout. Its creation was ordered by Pope Julius II, to defend the Port of Civitavecchia against pirates and any other hostile encounters.
Cathedrale de Civitavecchia
The Cathedral of San Francesco d'Assisi is the most important church of Civitavecchia. Dating back to the 17th century and completely restored in 1950, it has a Baroque style and stands on the remains of a previous Franciscan church.

Rapidly growing in popularity with tourists who are looking for beautiful beaches, decadent Italian cuisine and an abundance of historic sights, you can easily spend a day or two exploring all this scenic city has to offer.
Dating back to the 11th century, the historic Salerno Duomo was beautifully restored in the 1930s. Constructed in a Neapolitan Baroque/Rococo style, this picturesque cathedral features a bell tower (that dates to the 12th century), beautiful artwork in the interior and a Byzantine bronze door.
Arechi Castle
The Arechi Castle is a prominent mediaeval fortress that overlooks the city and the Gulf of Salerno from a height of 300 metres. The reason it is called Arechi is because the Lombard Duke Arechi II has historically been linked to the building of this fortress.
Promenade Trieste
The Promenade Trieste, Salerno's most picturesque location, has become known as a popular landmark in the city. Locals and tourists alike love this 2km long promenade, due to the variety of shops, bars and restaurants that line it. Among the places of artistic and cultural interest are the Ursino Castle, the Sant’Agata Cathedral, and the Benedictine Monastery.
The Ursino Castle dates back to the 13th century and was built at the behest of Frederick II of Swabia, who was at that time King of Sicily. It was the seat of Parliament during the Sicilian Vespers and later the residence of the Aragonese sovereigns. Today it houses a museum.
Cathedral of Sant'Agata
The Sant'Agata Cathedral overlooks the south-east side of Piazza del Duomo. Destroyed and rebuilt several times, the beginning of the first construction dates back to 1086, on the ruins of the ancient Achillian Baths from the Roman period of the 4th century.
Monastero dei Benedettini
The ecclesiastical complex of San Nicolò "la Rena" consists of a Benedictine monastery and a church of the same name. The first structure dates back to the 12th century and owes its name to the volcanic sand that characterises the surrounding area.
Mount Etna
Mount Etna is the highest active volcanic complex in Europe; the most recent measurements have revealed a height of 3,326 metres above sea level. Its historical eruptions have changed the surrounding landscape over the centuries.
Teatro Massimo Bellini
The Massimo Bellini Theatre was built in the 19th century. It was inaugurated on May 31, 1890 with the Norma opera by the Catania composer Vincenzo Bellini. The hall has a horseshoe-shaped structure with four tiers of boxes and a gallery.

One of Croatia’s best kept secrets, Zadar has the historic heritage and fascinating architecture of Dubrovnik with a quieter, more intimate feel. As well as the impressive 16th-century walls and gates, you can explore ancient churches such as St Donatus’ Church, and the Roman Forum ruins. You’ll also find the renowned attraction, the Sea Organ, an art installation that plays music when filled with water.
Situated in the 19th-century Cosmacendi Palace, the Museum of Ancient Glass houses stunning collections of Roman glassware, from jars and vials to goblets and flasks. Visitors can also purchase their own replicas of these delicate pieces in the souvenir shop.
Roman Forum
Built between the 1st century BC and the 3rd century AD, the Roman Forum ruins were the centre of daily life. Most notable is the decorative column once used as a ‘pillar of shame’ to punish criminals, as well as the remains of the Capitolium.
St Donatus Church
Founded in the 9th century, the unusually-shaped Church of St Donat no longer serves as a church but holds frequent events and concerts because of its excellent acoustics. Visitors can take a look around inside, though it’s impressive structure is best admired from outside.
St Mary Church
Founded in 1066, St Mary’s Church is an understated yet stunning piece of architecture in Zadar. The adjoining treasury contains an exhibition of religious art, and is beautifully preserved by nuns of the church.
Zadar Walls and Gates
The most impressive of the walls and gates is the Land Gate, the main entrance into the city, built in 1543. Zadar’s walls and gates meant that the city remained uncaptured, and are now a great way to explore the surroundings on foot.

Unity of Italy Square
The centre of Trieste is Piazza Unità d'Italia (Unity of Italy Square). At the base of San Giusto Hill, it is a popular plaza that faces the Gulf of Trieste and is regarded as having the largest waterfront in Europe with an area of 12,280 square metres.
Revoltella Museum
A modern art gallery, the Revoltella Museum (or Palazzo Revoltella), was constructed between 1853 and 1858 following the plans of Berlin architect Friedrich Hitzig.
