First ever ocean cruise, which may be our last! Just don’t think the cruising life is for us. We’ve tried it though, maybe our expectations were too high. Food was ok, could have been warmer at the buffet, choices in à la carte restaurants weren’t all that inviting. Drinks were good, shame about the tax being added to every drink for the entire cruise seeing as we departed from Barcelona/Spain. Service was just generally ok, definitely not what we expected! A couple of stand out team members, and some really pleasant staff, but they were the exception. Balcony cabin, was great and we really didn’t mind the separate sink, shower, toilet set up. Entertainment, whilst they were good at what they do, it was all quite the same throughout the ship. Please don’t let me hear another Beatles song!! Kudos to the Latin band and the poolside band, they were fab! Vibe beach club - saviour of our trip! Mostly quiet and relaxed, just the odd rowdy bunch. Slightly surprised not to have table service, but when we went to the bar for a drink it was then brought to us which was nice. Ship, first one we’ve been on, so nothing to compare it to, but we had no issues with it. Overall value - poor. It’s an expensive holiday (when planning and booking in advance) and one we were really looking forward to it, sadly it didn’t live up to the hype. We felt tipping was expected throughout, over and above the daily fees, whether great service was provided ot not. . FAS speciality dining, additional service fees, the expectation to order a bottle of wine when there, the recommendation, which was excellent but we didn’t expect to pay over $100 for it!!! We had a nice time, but either cruising is not for us, or another cruise company might suit us better.

NCL Epic Is more like a fancy ferry than a cruise ship. Bars that have no sea view, a promenade deck that all you can see is the tops of the lifeboats, an Irish bar that runs out of Guinness on day 2. The balcony stateroom had a see through toilet and shower, the sink was on the dressing table in the room! The room was wavy shaped that wasted space. Then the stinger is the hidden taxes and gratuities on every drink that they do not tell you about. Then the staff say that it is only in spain and italy and 4 days later they say it is for every day on the cruise. Free at Sea drinks package is not Free it is plus taxes.

smaller than other ships I've been on. felt a bit closed in, especially as there is no way to walk the perimeter of the ship, the only open deck is the pool deck and thats broken up by the water park/rockwall, small pool at the back in the adults only section, and the water temp in both main pools and adults one was far to hot
