Description
Sitting on the west coast of St. Croix, the largest of the U.S. Virgin Islands, Frederiksted is a charming colonial town with a local population of under 1,000 people – something that really highlights just how laid back this port of call is. Known for its calm waters and naturally deep harbour, Frederikstead was instrumental in improving this island’s commerce throughout the 18th and 19th centuries; part of the Danish West Indies until 1917, the colonial history of this island destination is evident. That makes it an excellent place to explore if you’re a history buff; Frederiksted and other settlements on St. Croix are littered with historic structures and landmarks. Though, with stunning white-sand beaches and plenty of opportunities to snorkel, kayak, and more, this is a fantastic destination for anyone interested in enjoying water sports in the sunshine. You’ll also be able to immerse yourself fully in the local culture with rum tasting tours, the chance to enjoy sensational Caribbean cuisine, and more.
