A prominent historical building in Semarang is Lawang Sewu. Built in stages, its construction finished in the early 20th century. Once home to the Dutch East Indies Railway Company, but being used as the headquarters for the Japanese military in World War II, this historical building has a captivating past that’s waiting to be explored.

Spanning an impressive 3.2 hectares of land, the Sam Poo Kong Complex is one of the most iconic landmarks in the city; and the oldest temple within it is the incredible Sam Poo Kong Temple. Showcasing extraordinary 14th century Javanese and Chinese architecture, stand out features are the layered pagoda roof and colourful statues.

Around 1 hour from the port you’ll find the bustling town of Singaraja. Aligned with warehouses that are in a Dutch colonial style, there are several temples, shops and a royal palace that dates back to the 1600;s here. A wonderful place to explore, it’s well worth a visit during your stop off.

Accessible via tours, the Pura Ulun Dana Bratan Temples are major landmarks in Bali. situated on Lake Bratan, not only are there temples here, but beautiful surroundings include a variety of plant life and ponds.

The bustling harbour in Benoa is a fantastic place to visit, due to the amount of watersports and food stalls surrounding it. Offering the perfect photo opportunities, the harbour is at the heart of the area.

A vibrant market with pretty surroundings, one of the most popular attractions in Benoa is the Pasar Desa Pakraman market. Local fishermen and other vendors sell their produce here from the early evening until midnight.

Another nearby cultural attraction is the Caow Eng Bio Temple. One of the oldest Chinese temples in the area, it boasts prominent red arches, shrines, sculptures and other extraordinary features.

Alternatively you could head to the beautiful George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens. Located two kilometres from the centre of Darwin, it spans an impressive 42 hectares and is home to an array of tropical species. It also boasts an event space, retail gift shop and a mini amphitheatre.

Get up close to some of the most incredible creatures on this planet - saltwater crocodiles. At Crocosaurus Cove which is situated in the centre of the city, you can swim with the crocodiles, hold baby crocodiles and enjoy other fun activities at this unique attraction. And with the largest display of saltwater crocodiles in Australia, there’s no better place to do it!

Comprising over 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands, the Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef system; it sits off the coast of Queensland, Australia, and stretches around 1,400 miles over an area of approximately 133,000 square miles. It’s so big, you can see it from outer space, and it’s the world’s largest single structure made by living organisms. Supporting a staggering diversity of marine life, with over 1,500 fish species among the aquatic mammals and sea birds calling the reef and its islands home (and that’s not even going into the hundreds of invertebrates and coral species found here). Threatened by global warming, any chance to visit this remarkable natural landmark should be taken advantage of.

Located in a former school and convent, which was built circa 1889, the Cooktown Museum is a fantastic place to visit if you’re looking to learn more about the fascinating history of this remarkable town and the expeditions of Captain James Cook – who spent seven weeks on the Endeavour River and made the first meaningful contact between Europeans and the Indigenous Australian population here.

First established officially in 1878, the Cooktown Botanic Gardens boast five major plant collections; these are: species traditionally used by Aboriginal peoples, species collected by naturalists Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander circa 1770, flora given by the Queensland Acclimatisation Society throughout the 19th century, a collection curated by local artist Vera Scarth-Johnson, and a variety of rare and threatened endemic plant species. You’ll also find several unique gardens here, and over 200 bird species have been recorded in the botanical gardens and winder botanic reserve. A relaxing destination to explore while ashore, it’s never a bad idea to spend some time strolling in the sunshine here.

Take to the sky on the incredible Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. Spanning 7.5 kilometres, it takes you high above the picturesque Gorge National Park within Queensland’s iconic World Heritage Area; the Wet Tropics Rainforest, that’s also known as the oldest tropical rainforest in the world. Taking around 1.5 hours to reach Kuranda, along the way you can stop off in two areas to explore the forest.

One of the most iconic railways in the world, the Kuranda Railway takes you from Cairns to Kuranda along a heritage listed line. Built in 1891, it offers breathtaking views over the Barron Falls, alongside several towns. Taking just under 2 hours, this 37 kilometre journey is simply magical.

Alternatively you could head to Cairns Aquarium, that’s situated in the heart of the city. Recently opened, there are over 15,000 different animals throughout the zoo, 71 tanks and 3 different levels to explore.

This beautiful park is located right on the ocean and is surrounded by restaurants, playgrounds, cafes and shops. A tranquil place to walk around or to enjoy a delicious picnic, Strand Park offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area.

Showcasing the natural and cultural heritage of Queensland, the Museum of Tropical Queensland is a popular attraction within the centre of Townsville. Within the museum, you’ll find the artefacts of the Australian shipwreck, Pandora, alongside an array of other exhibits showcasing the maritime history and marine wildlife of Queensland.

Interactive and fascinating, the Billabong Sanctuary is home to a variety of animals, from koalas to wombats and crocodiles. Throughout your time there, you can enjoy talks, feeding shows and other presentations, along with getting up close and personal with these fascinating creatures.
