Tyholmen Old Town
Tyholmen in Arendal is a magnificent, well-preserved old town district with steep, narrow streets and a strong maritime ambiance. It is known for its old, white-painted wooden houses, some of which date back to the 1600s, and seems like going back in time. Located on a peninsula, it has a "Venice of the North" feel, with historic homes, cosy cafes, and direct access to the bustling Pollen harbour area.
Raet National Park
Raet National Park near Arendal is a magnificent marine park that covers 607 km² of shoreline, containing remarkable Ice Age moraines, unique pebble beaches, polished rock formations, and coastal pine forests. It provides a variety of summer beach activities, including swimming, kayaking, hiking, and touring islands with attractive, historical lighthouses.
Merdø Island
Merdø is a lovely, car-free island in Arendal with a characteristic Southern Norwegian seaside ambiance. The inner side includes family-friendly sandy beaches, while the outer side features impressive, smooth rocks and breathtaking sea vistas. A great place for swimming, relaxation, and moderate hiking. It is about a 20-30-minute ferry ride from Arendal in the summer months.
