Step back in time in this fascinating museum located in the heart of the city. Built in 1863, it’s home to a variety of exhibitions showcasing the enthralling history of Iceland, from its maritime past to artefacts capturing the life of original settlers within the country.

Situated in the centre of the city, Harpa is an extraordinary concert hall that features a distinct design with coloured glass surrounding its exterior. Host to a range of concerts, conferences, plays, opera performances and more, it’s a must-see when in the city.

Arguably one of the most beloved attractions in Iceland is the Blue Lagoon. Located less than 45 minutes from the city, it has a geothermal spa that’s bright blue. Onsite there is also a cafe, a massage room, restaurants and more to enjoy throughout your time there.

In 1973 the town was devastated by a volcanic eruption, and everyone on the island had to evacuate and leave their homes. The events of this historic eruption have been remembered within the Eldheimar Museum, which showcases buildings that were destroyed, facts about the eruption and other fascinating information.

Overlooking the town, Eldfell Mountain was created due to the aforementioned eruption. Now, you can hike to the top of this picturesque mountain and take in views out over 720 ft. With many trails to choose from, it’s the perfect opportunity to discover the beauty of the island and see the remains of several buildings that were destroyed by the lava.

The Sea Life Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary is situated in Klettsvik Bay. You can visit the sanctuary by taking a boat trip from the main harbour. Home to two rescued beluga whales, you can learn about their past and what it takes to care for these incredible creatures.

Whilst in Djupivogur, head to the Gallery Freevilli - a significant art gallery in the town that’s housed in a vibrant red building. Full of arts and crafts made from things found on the shore (including objects made out of fish skeletons), this unique and free gallery is worth a visit.

Situated on a hill on the outskirts of the town, the Bondavaroa offers incredible views out towards the surrounding fjord. A fun and picturesque hiking trail, the view that you’ll be granted with from the observation deck is great for those wanting to see all the local landmarks.

Located in the heart of the town, the colourful Djupivogur Mural makes for a great photo opportunity whilst stopping off in the town and is a significant local attraction.

One of Rotterdam's most well-known landmarks is the Cube Houses (Kubuswoningen). These residential sets of buildings, created by Dutch architect Piet Blom, stand out because each home is cube-shaped. A unique place to visit whilst in Rotterdam, you can learn ore about the cube houses by visiting the Show Cube Museum.

Designed by architect Maaskant, this 185-metre tower is one of the tallest buildings in Holland. Step into the elevator and head up the tower to enjoy breathtaking views over Rotterdam; and if it’s a clear day, you can even see the city of Antwerp in the distance.

An iconic landmark in Rotterdam, the Erasmusbrug Bridge was constructed in 1986 and connects the north and south of the city. A striking feat of engineering, it’s surrounded by cafes, restaurants and hotels.

A national moment in Haugesund, Haraldshaugen is a moment that was built in 1872 to commemorate Norway’s unification, under the rule of the 19th century King Harald Fairhair. A prominent historical landmark, it’s a short bus or taxi ride from the cruise port.

If you’re in port for most of the day and you fancy stretching your legs, the Djupadalen hiking trail is just the ticket. Along the way you’ll see an array of wildlife, flowers and trees. A beautiful walk that’s well worth a go for those fitness fanatics, it’s a more tranquil activity to enjoy during your time in Haugesund.

If you want a true taste of Norway, head to the Nordvegen History Centre, where you’ll be greeted with ‘real’ vikings' before discovering the fascinating history of this beautiful country. Perfect for those wanting to find out more about Norway and its captivating past.

The cathedral, which was formally opened in 1957, is a large church with two naves built in the Gothic architectural style. A copper-clad pyramid rises from a freestanding bell tower that is 50 metres tall and the interior is lavishly ornamented with Christian symbols and signs, including some exquisite stained glass. After the first two churches on the property were destroyed by fire, the cathedral in its current form was built on the grounds.

Only ten minutes' walk separates Molde's downtown from one of Norway's biggest and most comprehensive folk museums. The Romsdal Museum was founded in 1912 and features noteworthy interiors and structures from the entire area, such as pre-war townhouses in Bygata street.

If you’re looking for breathtaking views of Molde, head to the Varden Viewpoint. At 407 metres up, you can enjoy views over the town, fjords and its surrounding islands. Reachable in one hour by foot or a 10 minute car journey, the viewpoint’s panoramic views are out of this world.

If you’re looking to soar high above the Nordfjord, take the impressive Loen Skylift. An aerial tramway, 7 metres per second is the top speed and it is among the steepest in the world with a gradient of up to 60 degrees.

Taking 3 hours, this incredible hike takes you up the picturesque Mount Hauren. When you reach the top, you’ll be greeted with an all-encompassing vista of the natural splendour that surrounds Olden. Well worth the effort, you’ll pass a lush forest and other captivating scenery throughout your hike.

Located in the valley of Oldedalen, this impressive lake covers just under 8 square kilometres and spans 12 kilometres. Situated between the fjords, the turquoise waters of the lake are like something out of a dream and the surrounding mountains are simply magical.

One of the most popular hiking routes in the region is the hike to Dalsnuten, a peak by the Gandsfjord that stands over 330 metres above sea level; a reasonably accessible route that’s suitable for the whole family, views from Dalsnuten are stunning – and, if you want to spend a little more time exploring the area, there are plenty of ways to extend your hike on the way up. With routes affording you the chance to see the remains of the Lundane homestead, an old farm and its orchard, and more insights into what life in rural Norway was like, you’ll find an adventure here refreshing and rewarding.

Known as “Swords in Rock” in English, Sverd i fjell is an impressive monument in Stavanger (which is just north of Sandnes) commemorating the historic Battle of Hafrsfjord, which took place in 872. The battle that resulted in King Harald Fairhair uniting all of Norway under one crown, the monument depicts three bronze swords – the largest of which representing the victorious Harald, while the other two represent the defeated petty kings. Planted in solid rock, so that the swords may never be removed and wielded again, the monument also represents peace.

If you’re looking for something a little different, Kongeparken – which sits just south of Sandnes – is one of the largest amusement parks in the region and home to more than 50 rides, along with restaurants and other theme-park attractions. While largely aimed at younger children, from ages 3 to 12, you’ll find fun for the whole family here.
