Unfortunately my wife had fractured her foot in a simple accident while we were assure. The ship has excellent medical care. The staff were concerned for her welfare and helped her to enjoy the trip as much as was possible.
Once she is healed we will be looking to book another cruise on this excellent ship.
Great food and superb staff thoughout the ship. Brilliant musical entertainment

First of all I will say the staff were excellent.
When a tip is included in every purchase then you order a drink at a bar I expect it to be brought to my table not for me to stand there for 5 minutes to wait for it to be ready.
Everywhere very busy, queuing at Dutch bar ridiculous, not enough seating at the lido buffet, if you're going to serve at the buffet (which is good hygiene wise) make sure you have enough people serving. . We had a couple of issues with our room which were sorted but we had to endure a sanitation smell for two days. One bar that made fresh orange juice on a 300mtr ship! and apparently none served after 9pm, "have it all" if it's alcohol. Outside space for a drink again very busy. The lido pool roof almost constantly closed, stiflingly hot. No advice given on making your own way to towns/cities just sell the often over priced transfer bus. Embarkation and disembarkation very good, getting to your dockside parking, an absolute joke. Docked at a different quay so a shuttle bus provided, waited 30 minutes for the bus then to collect your car someone writes your name over the top of the useless QR code gives it to someone else who walks 50 yds to an old red phone box (I kid you not) walks back to shout out names and away you go.
I can only compare this cruise ship to the one there that I've been on, The Iona by P&O and my complaints on that ship. . . . zero. Holland America could learn a lot from a trip on The Iona.

We thoroughly enjoyed our cruise to the Arctic Circle and Nord Kapp - Holland America were excellent - comfort, cabins, entertainment, food was delicious with a vast range of everything and ALL the staff went out of their way to please - nothing was too much trouble. I would definitely recommend Holland Amrrica as a cruise line and we would certainly cruise with them in the future.

We were excited to have an accessible cabin as these are hard to get. 8145 was excellent, spacious enough to allow the wheelchair to be manoeuvred easily and an automatic front door for easy access.
However
I complained immediately to Guest Services who offered us another cabin but it was not accessible and too small. They did offer us earplugs and at the end of the cruise added $250 to our onboard credit by way of compensation.
I have written to Holland America as we feel the amount of compensation for a ruined holiday is derisory but have yet to hear from them. I am surprised that no one appears to have complained about this noise before because it is constant and when you eat in the Lido you see the trolleys being used regularly and hear first hand the noise they make.
We had so looked forward to the cruise and the crew were excellent but it would have been so much better if we had not been so tired all of the time.
