Palermo is the capital of Sicily, as well as the fifth Italian municipality by population. The city has a long history: it was in fact founded by the Phoenicians at the turn of the 7th and 6th centuries BC and was subject to the conquests of various populations, including Romans and Saracens. Numerous buildings are recognised by the State as national monuments due to their historical and artistic features, such as the Cathedral and the Martorana Church.

During a stop in Civitavecchia you can visit the Taurine Baths, the Michelangelo Fort, and the Cathedral.

The Savona Sistine Chapel, smaller than its Roman namesake, which was commissioned by Pope Sixtus IV in the 15th century, and the Cathedral of Maria Assunta, the main place of worship in the Savona area. Another prominent aspect of the city is the Art Nouveau-style architecture.

The ship itself is very sleek and modern, most decks are bright and colourful. The decor matches the experience - this was a fun week if not luxurious. Great for holiday goers wanting a fun European experience that caters to families and young people. If you are looking for a traditional / luxurious cruising experience then do look elsewhere. Overcrowding is the only place I can fault this experience for the price. For example, lifts involve long waiting times and the main buffet is a chaotic experience which can become stressful, made worse by the fact staff serve you and there is no clearly defined queuing system - my best advice is to go to the dining restaurants which are also open at breakfast and lunch as these are quieter and self service which makes them more convenient. The entertainment was fun and engaging most of the time but do arrive at least 30 minutes prior to an event to secure the few seats that have a decent view. I wouldn’t rush back onto a Costa cruise because of the overcrowding but as a last minute holiday, this was still an incredibly exciting and enjoyable experience, especially for the money.

Drinks/food are very reasonably priced. Entertainment is average but it’s more than enough for our requirements as we spent most of our time in the pool or exploring the ports. Charge is okay as I think their fare isn’t too high so it’s good overall. Already missing the ship even though we just got off at the start of August.

I am 70 years old and unfortunately found the 35-40 degree temperatures very difficult. No ones fault. I just chose the wrong time of year and year. The boat was terrific and I enjoyed much of the entertainment even though much of it was in Italian.
