Initially discovered by Spanish explorers in 1526, and eventually first fully rounded by Dutch navigators for the East India Company in 1616, who then named this destination Kaap Hoorn, after Hoorn in the Netherlands, Cape Horn is a rocky outlet steeped in maritime history. Navigating around Cape Horn was once a dangerous feat, with rough waters and intense winds making this trade route a valuable one – when navigated successfully, anyway.
