I'm the Head of Marketing, Partnerships & Planning. Having spent nearly 15 years with the Iglu Cruise marketing team, I still feel incredibly fortunate to work in an industry that’s all about making dream holidays a reality. Now, as a mum of two, I’m so excited to be sharing these incredible travel experiences with my own children and seeing the world through their eyes.

What was your first impression of Disney Destiny?

The attention to detail aboard the Disney Dream is truly breathtaking. The ship feels both luxurious and incredibly welcoming, with subtle nods to Disney magic tucked away in every corner just waiting to be discovered.

Disney Destiny

What destinations did you visit during your cruise?

Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island.

Who would you recommend this ship to?

It really is the ultimate family holiday, but the adult-only spaces were just as incredible! I loved De Vil’s, a chic piano bar inspired by Cruella de Vil with amazing speciality cocktails. Between the fun bars onboard, the relaxing spa and adult-only area at Castaway Cay, I couldn't help but think what a fun 'girls' trip' this would make.

Did you have a chance to see multiple cabin types? What were they like, and what’s one insider tip you’d like to share?

Yes, all the cabins were beautifully designed with plenty of storage space. Our preference is a balcony cabin, and what is quite unique about Disney is that most of the cabins have a bath, which is great when you are travelling with small children.

The children slept in a bunk bed, which they loved. During the day, it is a sofa area, and in the evening, the staff turn it into a sleeping area.

Did your accommodation have enough storage space for a full 7-night cruise?

Yes, all the cabins were beautifully designed with plenty of storage space.

How was the noise inside your accommodation? Are there any areas you advise avoiding for those selecting their own cabin?

No, there was no noise inside the cabin. And I don’t have any suggestions on areas you would need to avoid.

If you could only eat in one complimentary restaurant for the whole trip, which one would you choose, and what’s one must-try dish you recommend?

1923 - We absolutely loved this restaurant. While it’s a bit more low-key compared to the big "show-stopper" dining rooms, its elegant atmosphere doesn't make it any less family-friendly. While many guests head straight for the buffet, we found the breakfast menu to be a hidden gem. It offered everything from the iconic Disney Mickey waffles to fun melon-shaped "boats" for the kids, alongside plenty of choices for adults. It was a relaxing way to start the day.

What about the speciality dining on Disney Destiny?

We didn't feel the need for speciality dining because the included options and experiences were so extensive. Disney stands out from other cruise lines with their rotational dining, you move to a new restaurant each night, but your serving staff moves with you. This is a game-changer when travelling with children; the staff truly bond with them and have everything ready before you even sit down, from high chairs to favourite drinks in kid-friendly cups. It’s these thoughtful touches that make Disney so special.

We were lucky enough to dine at 1923 and Pride Lands: Feast of the Lion King. The Lion King dinner show was out of this world! The restaurant is stunning, and the experience is completely immersive. As you eat, performers sing hits from the stage show. The menu features South African-inspired dishes like Peri-Peri shrimp and spiced roasted chicken, but there’s no need to worry if this is not to your taste, as they have favourites like pizza, too.

Insider Tip: If you enjoy a theme, then you can go all out. There were plenty of people dressed up in Lion King-inspired outfits, from a touch of faux leopard skin to Lion King ears.

What was the most surprising or under-the-radar activity that a first-time cruiser would miss?

There are so many complimentary activities throughout the day dotted throughout the ship. I highly recommend downloading the app to keep track of the daily schedule!

One of our favourite highlights was enjoying a cosy moment in The Sanctum. They hosted a charming colouring session where the kids could choose from a variety of themed wooden magnets and decorations to customise, while I enjoyed a coffee.

Afterwards, we used their creations to decorate our cabin door. If you’re new to Disney Cruise Line, door decorating is a huge tradition! It’s so much fun to walk through the corridors and see everyone’s unique, creative displays, plus, it makes finding your own room at the end of the day easy.

What was the vibe of the pool deck onboard?

It was a very balanced and family-friendly area.

Did you check out the kids’ facilities available onboard? What were the highlights?

Disney’s Oceaneer Club!

Their ages allowed them to join the Oceaneer's Club. Enrolment is simple via the easy-to-use app. Upon joining, they receive a 'magic band,' which you can either buy or borrow for a small deposit. This band is required for them to scan in and out of the club. Additionally, you create a 'secret word' that must be used for pickup, ensuring they are only released to you.

A major benefit of the club is its flexibility; you can use it whenever you like. For example, you could drop them off for an hour before dinner without being restricted by set time slots.

Kids have the choice of entering the club by walking through the barriers or arriving via a fun slide.

My children were thrilled with the themed areas. My son loved meeting all his Star Wars Heroes, while my daughter, who is in her Princess Era, absolutely loved the dedicated Princess-themed spaces. These spaces include Rapunzel's, Belle's, and Anna & Elsa's Frozen-themed space.

The only real issue with the club is getting my four-year-old to leave. When the choice is between heading out with Mum and Dad or making slime with Stitch or going on an adventure with Rapunzel, you can imagine which she chooses.

Which destination was the biggest surprise, and why?

Castaway Cay - We were incredibly excited to visit Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island, and it certainly didn't disappoint. The scenery is truly breathtaking, boasting crystal-clear turquoise waters and pristine white sands. What makes it even better is that the world-class experience you enjoy on the ship extends seamlessly onto the island.

The island is fully equipped with everything you need, including snacks, drinks, towels, and even life jackets for the children, so you can enjoy your day without the hassle of lugging around extra gear.

We spent most of our time soaking in the warm ocean while my son had a blast on the waterslides, eventually cooling off with a refreshing Frozen-themed smoothie from Olaf’s Summertime Freeze.

While there is a fantastic kids' club available on the island, we chose to skip it this time. We preferred to spend the entire day together, making unforgettable memories in such a special place.

What was disembarking like?

It was so easy and well organised.

Our final breakfast was a bittersweet, emotional experience; as Mickey, Minnie, and the crew shared their farewell messages over the loudspeakers, the realisation that our journey was ending hit home. When my children asked why I was crying, I explained that these were tears of pure joy for the incredible memories we had created together in a place that truly lets you leave the outside world behind the moment you step on board.

Compared to other cruise experiences, what makes this one stand out? Where could it improve?

It is difficult to convey the sheer value of what’s included; from productions like Hercules and Frozen to fireworks at sea and immersive kids' clubs, these are world-class Disney experiences that would cost significantly more if purchased as individual tickets.

Plus their crew, or as Disney call them, their Cast Members, really do go above and beyond to make your trip special. My youngest came back with so much confidence after our trip.

What’s one bit of advice you would give someone booking this exact cruise that they won’t find in a brochure?

I initially worried my youngest might be too small to fully appreciate the trip, but seeing her completely starstruck by the Disney Princesses was magical, while my seven-year-old son was in his element with all things Marvel and Star Wars. I realised then that I could have gone even sooner; there is truly something for every stage of childhood and for adults, so my advice is not to wait!

What's your one-sentence summary of your experience?

We truly had an adventure at sea, making wonderful memories we will treasure forever.

How do you rate your experience on Disney Destiny?
