Yorkshire TV and cruise legend Jane McDonald returns to our screen on Friday 25th August 2023 with her new travel series Jane McDonald: Lost in Japan. Following on from her Holidaying with Jane McDonald and Cruising with Jane McDonald series, this new and exciting programme takes Jane across Japan on an extraordinary adventure, starting in the bustling capital of Tokyo.
Airing on Channel 5, the singer and presenter jets off to the captivating country of Japan to learn all about its history, culture and traditions, whilst visiting incredible cities and villages.

Jane McDonald: Lost in Japan - Episode 1
Kicking off her new travel series is a trip to Tokyo, where Jane discovers its combination of traditional and modern features. She then heads up to the Shibuya Sky Platform observation deck, taking in a breathtaking view of the city from 230 metres up! Then, Jane visits Shinto shrines, learning about their history and how they can bring good luck.
Learning about Japanese culture, the next stop on her trip is to a sumo match, where she not only meets sumo wrestlers, but eats a huge feast and dresses up in sumo gear. The Maid Cafe in the capital makes for another fascinating activity for Jane, as she is served a tantalising noodle dish whilst being surrounded by a princess-based fantasy world. At the end of the first episode, Jane heads to a karaoke bar (a hugely popular activity in Japan), closing the night with friends she’s met along the way.
Jane McDonald: Lost in Japan - Episode 2
In the second episode of Jane McDonald: Lost in Japan, Jane continues her Tokyo adventure, taking part in a whole host of traditional and modern activities, including visiting the world’s first robot-run cafe, learning about ninjas, sampling sake and enjoying some wine and sushi from the iconic Tsukiji market. A fun-filled episode, it gives viewers an insight into some of Tokyo’s most unique attractions!
Jane McDonald: Lost in Japan - Episode 3
Episode 3 sees Jane reading to the beautiful city of Kyoto, where she explores traditional temples, shrines and discovers what it takes to run a tea ceremony; all whilst meeting geishas dressed in pretty kimonos. She arrives in Kyoto on one of Japan’s futuristic bullet trains, before exploring the city by rickshaw. The episode ends with Jane exploring a breathtaking bamboo forest.

Heading away from Kyoto, Jane travels to the picturesque city of Osaka on an extraordinary wooden train. Viewers are invited onboard, where there is an awe-inspiring garden! After reaching Osaka, she explores the beautiful canals, bustling centre and the unique Dontonbori district sampling some of the best food that Osaka has to offer- including the likes of octopus balls and mochi!

The rest of the series continues with Jane visiting the likes of traditional cafes, ninja schools and of course, the majestic Mount Fuji.
An epic adventure from start to finish, Jane spends her time delving deep into its traditions of Japan, alongside its modern innovative attractions, giving viewers throughout the programme the temptation to visit the Land of the Rising sun themselves.

The rest of the series continues with Jane visiting the likes of robot cafes, ninja schools and of course, the majestic Mount Fuji.
