        Piraeus (tours to Athens)

Piraeus is a stunning port city in the Athens urban area and an important entry point to the ancient city of Athens for Mediterranean cruises in the Aegean Sea. Although, that doesn’t mean Piraeus has nothing to offer visitors – the truth is far from it, in fact. With a recorded history dating back to the city’s foundation in the 5th century BC, Piraeus is home to stunning historic sites, impressive architecture, and a rich history of its own – originally established as a prototype port for Athens. It’s now Greece’s largest port and a bustling metropolis; while tours to Athens are always worth considering, you’ll enjoy the time you spend in Piraeus.

Messina is a coastal city located in the north-east of Sicily and overlooks the homonymous strait, which separates the region from the rest of the Peninsula. Founded by the Greeks in the 8th century BC, a few years before Rome, it is said that the strait was the home of Scylla and Charybdis, two sea monsters described by Homer in the Odyssey. In Messina you can admire the Duomo, the Astronomical Clock and the rich Regional Museum which houses works by famous artists.

Naples is one of the most important cities in Italy. Its foundation dates back to the 8th century BC, and it once had an important relationship with Athens, due to its commercial power and position on the sea. The city is rich in history and there are numerous places of interest to visit, in particular the archaeological excavations of the nearby Pompeii and Herculaneum, which were destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD.

Our cruise on Sun Princess was very enjoyable. The inside cabin was clean and everything was in good working order. For the first time we had a door on the shower instead of a curtain. The food was delicious and so much choice. I especially like the fact that staff dish up the food in the Eatery. Albeit the ship takes over 4000 passengers we could always find a quiet spot. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The only grumble I have is that the passengers were smoking in a variety of places that were hard to avoid.

Just back from an amazing cruise on the Sun Princess. The service from the staff aboard was brilliant. We had 2 days in Athens prior to boarding. Taxis and hotels organised by Iglu and it went seamlessly.
