How To Book
This optional experience can be booked online and on embarkation day, by speaking to the Expedition Coordinator, who is often located in the Expedition Lounge onboard. This is done at a voyage level, due to the experience being heavily weather dependent, and you will be assigned a specific time and date by the expedition team; this will often be decided the evening before the experience itself, allowing for the most up-to-date weather information.
Inclusions
Kayaking Gear
All necessary kayaking gear and equipment, including a waterproof outer layer (dry suit), waterproof over-mitts (pogies), booties, and dry bags for any equipment (ie. cameras).
Things To Know
Wildlife Sightings
When on a kayak expedition, wildlife sightings can vary from experience to experience, and they can be affected by the current weather conditions and the time of year you’re travelling. While the Expedition Team will endeavour to ensure you’re able to enjoy the most rewarding kayak expedition possible, the nature of these excursions makes them unpredictable at times.
Accessibility
Kayak expeditions are not wheelchair accessible, and those planning on embarking on these excursions will require a good level of mobility to do so, as the experience can require embarking a rigid inflatable Zodiac boat when disembarking your kayak; you will also need to be able to paddle using a kayak, though no prior experience is required.
Cancellations
Kayak expeditions often go ahead rain or shine, but may be cancelled in the event of bad weather or unsuitable conditions. This can sometimes happen at a moment’s notice, as kayaks are particularly sensitive to adverse weather conditions.
Minimum Age & Physical Restrictions
The minimum age for a kayak expedition is six years, and children must be accompanied by an adult when embarking on this experience. The minimum height for participation is 150 cm, with the maximum height for comfort recommended to be 193 cm. The maximum weight per two-person kayak is 280 kg, including all equipment, and the maximum weight per individual for participation is 110 kg.
Booking Disclaimer
Due to the flexible nature of expedition cruises, your kayak expedition is not pre-booked for a specific day or port during your voyage; once onboard, the Expedition Team will assign you a specific date and time which will ensure you still have the opportunity to participate in any of the other expedition experiences that are available on that day.
