Nicknamed the “End of the World”, Ushuaia is a charming windswept city on the southernmost tip of South America and an important port of call for cruise adventures to Antarctica. In the heart of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago, this port is surrounded by some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world, boasting sensational sightseeing opportunities for everyone who travels here. From vibrant coastal forests and dramatic waterfalls to stunning glaciers and unique polar wildlife, Ushuaia really is somewhere where you’ll be able to bask in the sheer beauty of nature, and soak up some sensational panoramic views from the vantage points found here. This city, though, while being famous for being (arguably) the most southernmost city in the entire world, is also something of a gateway to Antarctica and the smaller islands that make up the Tierra del Fuego archipelago. So, despite being rather quaint in comparison to other Argentinian cities and South American holiday hotspots, what you’re met with in Ushuaia is just a taste of what’s to come – if you’re continuing onto Antarctica, anyway. That doesn’t mean you should be too eager to leave Ushuaia, though, as this port of call does offer a lot more than just breathtaking natural beauty. Ushuaia is also home to a unique collection of museums and some fantastic food; so, while the awe-inspiring natural beauty of the region is a major highlight, this is one destination that will prove to be just as memorable as everything else on your itinerary.
Things to do in Ushuaia:
Tierra del Fuego National Park
An expansive national park that protects nearly 70,000 hectares of land, the Tierra del Fuego National Park combines marine areas, forests, and mountains to create a truly fascinating place worth exploring if you have the time while visiting Ushuaia. Here, you’ll find everything from luscious woodland and tumbling waterfalls to dramatic mountains and serene lakes. Throughout, you’ll also find evidence of the Yámanas, the first inhabitants of these lands, which serves to remind everyone who spends some time here that this region has been inhabited for more than 10,000 years. With so much to see, this is easily the best place to visit if you’re looking to switch off and embrace the great outdoors.
Museo del Fin del Mundo
If you want to learn more about the city of Ushuaia, Museo del fin del Mundo is the perfect place to go. A living heritage museum that explores the history and culture of Ushuaia and the Tierra del Fuego archipelago, the End of the World Museum (which is its name in English) is home to numerous exhibitions that explore the native history of this region, the local fauna and flora, the traditions and customs of the people here, and even some of the shipwrecks that have happened here over the centuries. Found in parts of the National Bank building and Old Government House, these impressive buildings only serve to highlight the importance of the museum and its contents.
Museo de la Ciudad
Also known as Casa Pena, this former private residence has served as the City Museum in Ushuaia since 2009; with an interesting selection of informative exhibits and historic items, this museum offers visitors a fantastic insight into what ordinary life was like in this city throughout the 20th century – which is when it was originally occupied by the Pena family.

Seabourn Antarctic Experience - Overnight onboard
DAY 4-8
20 Feb 2026
Time at Port: TBD
A breathtakingly stunning remote region boasting once-in-a-lifetime travel experiences, Antarctica is truly a sensational place to visit for anyone with an explorer’s itch to scratch – and Seabourn’s Antarctic Experience elevates that even further, making this one of the best expedition cruise experiences available. Here, with unforgettable experiences awaiting you, relish in the pristine beauty of Antarctica’s icy wilderness, where every moment is yours to savour for as little or as long as you wish. While your specific day-to-day itinerary of activities will vary ahead of embarkation, depending on favourable weather conditions, you can expect your adventure in Antarctica to be full of awe-inspiring landscapes, remarkable wildlife sightings, and snowy hikes to some of the region’s most jaw-dropping spots. You’ll glide across the icy waters on Zodiac cruises, venture inland on guided nature walks to observe the wildlife in its natural habitat, and enjoy a number of exclusive experiences – such as Seabourn’s exhilarating Polar Plunge, and exquisite Caviar on Ice. An undeniably dramatic destination that belongs to no nation, somewhere that’s simultaneously the world’s largest desert and largest ice sheet, exploring Antarctica is a profound experience you won’t soon forget – and Seabourn ensures that you’ll be enjoying an ultra-luxurious iteration of an Antarctic expedition cruise at that.
Things to do in Seabourn Antarctic Experience - Overnight onboard:
Weddell Seal
A large species of seal found in abundance on Antarctica, Weddell Seals are just one animal you’ll have the chance to see when exploring Antarctica on a Seabourn Cruises expedition. Named for British sealing captain James Weddell, who is said to have discovered the seal during expeditions throughout the 1820s, the faces of these seals are said to be somewhat similar to that of a cat – with a short mouth line, with a feline-like nose and whiskers.
Crabeater Seal
Also known as the Krill-Eater Seal, Crabeater Seals are a relatively slender seal species that you’ll have the chance to observe in Antarctica when adventuring ashore with Seabourn Cruises. Among the most abundant seal species in the world, these seals don’t really eat crabs at all, despite their name; although, they have developed unique post-canine teeth that allows them to sieve Antarctic Krill.
King Penguin
Found primarily on subantarctic islands and the northern reaches of Antarctica, the King Penguin is the second-largest species of penguin in the world and – despite being smaller in size – is somewhat similar in appearance to the Emperor Penguin. With the ability to dive upwards of 300 ft underwater to find food, these sleek aquatic birds are remarkable. With a body of bright white feathers and a black head, accented by yellow cheeks and yellow-orange chest plumage, they stand out wonderfully against the icy landscape of Antarctica.
Gentoo Penguin
A relatively large species of penguin known for a loud trumpet-like call, which the bird emits when its head is thrown back, Gentoo Penguin are a species rapidly increasing in number in the Antarctic region; with a few natural predators to worry about, these penguins are identifiable by a bonnet-like white stripe across their heads and bright orange-red bills. Well adapted to the harsh climate of Antarctica, Gentoo Penguins are the fastest underwater swimmers of all penguin species, something that makes hunting in the ice-cold waters a lot easier.
Humpback Whale
Humpback Whales are a fascinating whale species you’ll have the chance to see when sailing to Antarctica with Seabourn Cruises. Known for their long pectoral fins and tubercles on their heads, this species of whale often displays distinct surface behaviors – often breaching, to give everyone a good look at these magnificent mammals. Males of the species can also produce complex songs that, on some occasions, last over half an hour! Once hunted to the brink of extinction, Humpback Whales are a recovering species you’ll find feeding in the polar waters around Antarctica on your expedition.
