Église Saint-Joseph is among the most fascinating landmarks in Le Havre and a must-see when visiting. An important part of the city’s rebuilding after the Second World War, Église Saint-Joseph was constructed during the mid-20th century in a dramatic, brutalist style, completely unlike existing churches throughout northern France. Built as a monument to the civilians killed during the war and dedicated to the patron saint of a happy death, fathers, workers, travellers, and immigrants, the church’s tower stands 107 metres tall. It stands out so much among Le Havre’s skyline that it acts as a beacon to those out at sea, particularly when illuminated at night.

Le Havre’s hanging gardens are a sight to behold, and the perfect place to enjoy a sunny afternoon while exploring this exciting destination on France’s northern coastline. Located within the remains of a mid-19th-century fortress, Les Jardins Suspendus boast picturesque, manicured lawns alongside an impressive variety of plants. From atop this former fort’s battlements, stunning views of Le Havre can be enjoyed.

Maison de l’Armateur is the perfect place to spend some time if you’re interested in regional history or appreciate the breathtaking grandeur of French architecture. Situated within a stately 18th-century mansion house, this fascinating art museum features a variety of impressive artworks and historic artefacts dating back to the 18th century and beyond. A highlight of the building itself is the impressive octagonal atrium, an interior highlight you won’t want to miss.

The Ravalet castle was built in the sixteenth century by Lord Ravalet and is situated in a magnificent park on the outskirts of the city. Built in a Renaissance style, there's a beautifully manicured French garden, a mandala garden, a greenhouse and an island prairie to explore. A wonderful way to spend an afternoon whilst in Cherbourg, this impressive castle showcases the beauty of French architecture.

Lying within the mediaeval city of Cherbourg, the Basilique Sainte-Trinite is one of the most historic buildings within the walls, and has many pieces within it that have been listed; such as the baptismal fort that dates to the 14th century. With a capacity of 3,000, this impressive church is filled with magnificent art pieces.

Rated as one of the most important collections in Normandy, the Thomas Henry Museum (Musee des beaux-arts) is home to around 300 different artworks, dating back to the 15th century. A significant museum within the city, its unique collection of Millet artworks is fascinating to discover.

In the heart of Bruges, Belgium, there lies a mediaeval bell tower known as The Belfry. The belfry, one of the city's most recognisable landmarks, once held the municipal records and a treasury., along with acting as an observation station for spotting fires and other hazards. You can now climb the Belfry and take in incredible views of surrounding Bruges.

Housing over 780 beers, a shop and a bar, the 2be Beer Wall is a hugely popular attraction in Bruges. Boasting a modern feel and a unique selection of Belgian beers, alongside merchandise- such as tankards.

If you’re looking for a tranquil activity whilst in Bruges, head to the Minnewater lake. A picturesque lake that’s aligned with benches, and beautiful buildings dotted along it, it’s the perfect place to sit and take in the breathtaking surroundings; and an escape from the hustle and bustle of the centre.

Perhaps the most iconic landmark in the port city of Dover, Dover Castle was built in the 11th century and is Grade I listed. A key defensive castle, it’s operated by English Heritage and offers several events throughout the year, including pirate shows and canon displays.

For incredible views out towards France, head to the White Cliffs of Dover. Reaching 350 feet, this prominent attraction is popular with tourists and locals alike due to the fantastic walking trails. Within easy reach of the castle and port, its striking appearance makes it a must see when stopping off or cruising from Dover.

Alternatively, you can head inland to Connaught Park; a spacious park that has lots of trails, a playground, tennis courts and breathtaking views out towards Dover and the channel. On sunny days, cruise ships can be seen docked at the port.

Dedicated to the tragedy of the Titanic, SeaCity Museum excellently portrays the aftermath through interactive exhibits. Featuring a 1:25 scale model of the ship, visitors learn about life onboard as well as the disaster that deeply affected Southampton in 1912.

Home to over 20 aircraft that were integral to the war effort, Solent Sky Museum is dedicated to the history of the RAF. Southampton itself played a large role in producing Supermarine Spitfires, which you’ll learn all about here.

If you’re looking to escape the busy port city, the New Forest National Park is just a short distance away with native New Forest ponies and lush heathland. Visitors can also catch events, activities and workshops throughout the year.
