Jackson Square, a park area formerly known as Place d’Armes, is one of the most important places in New Orleans. Sitting in the heart of the city’s French Quarter, this is where the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 was finalised – a land deal that saw the United States acquire a staggering amount of territory from the French Republic. Now, while the territory was just known as French Louisiana when purchased, that territory makes up no less than 15 states, from Montana in the northwest, all the way down to Louisiana in the American South. In the square itself, you’ll find a statue of former president Andrew Jackson, who was credited with victory at the 1815 Battle of New Orleans, and the impressive Saint Louis Cathedral.

Bursting with beautiful flora, coral reefs and sandy beaches, Punta Sur Ecological Park is a haven for stunning nature. Take a dip in the vibrant waters and dive deep to discover the marine life, before enjoying a delicious lunch and a cold drink at the restaurants.

Visitors of all ages will love Chankanaab Beach Adventure Park thanks to its many activities on offer. Go below the surface and discover colourful fish, reefs and even underwater sculptures, watch the sea lion show or enjoy a massage by the beautiful lagoon.

A family-owned attraction, the Cozumel Pearl Farm is in a beautiful location, with turquoise waters and a white sandy beach. A unique experience, you’ll learn how these beautiful objects are cultivated and then become a piece of jewellery.

If you’re looking for a thrilling activity whilst on the island, head to the Flighthouse. Standing at an impressive 136 feet tall, it’s home to an array of aerial activities - from quick jumps to zip lining across the island.

When in Costa Maya, make sure to snorkel around the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. A beautiful reef that spans 700 miles between Mexico, Guatemala, Belize and Honduras, it features an array of different coral and wildlife; including sharks and turtles.

Although this is a drive from Costa Maya, if you have the time during your stop over, it’s well worth the effort. A beautiful lake, the Bacalar Lagoon is simply breathtaking. Plus, there’s the opportunity to enjoy a tube ride across it- what more could you ask for!

Head to the incredible Aviarus Bird Sanctuary and discover an array of tropical birdlife from parrots to toucans. A wonderful way to spend an afternoon in the area, it’s popular with couples and families alike.
