VAT or sales tax may apply to onboard retail and food and beverage purchases depending on your cruise itinerary. If you have a dining or beverage package, tax is not applied to the package price but may be charged on individual items consumed onboard where required by local laws. Guests will be notified via the Freestyle Daily and onboard signage when taxes apply. For cruises departing Spain that leave the EU, a 10% VAT applies to food and beverages while in Spanish ports and waters. If the cruise departs Spain and remains within the EU, a 21% VAT applies to retail purchases and 10% VAT to food and beverages throughout the sailing. For cruises departing outside Spain that include a Spanish port and leave the EU, a 10% VAT applies to food and beverages while in Spanish waters. Cruises departing Italy that remain within the EU are subject to 22% VAT on retail purchases throughout. While in U.S. ports or territorial waters, applicable sales tax will be added to food and beverage purchases.
