Home to a wealth of churches, sprawling villas, and palaces – thanks to its prosperous past as an important free port for the Grand Duchy of Tuscany – Livorno is the most modern of the Tuscan cities and offers visitors a fantastic balance between modern Italian culture and the grandeur of Italy in the 18th and 19th centuries.
