As Crete’s largest city and popular for its association with many popular Greek myths and characters such as Minos, Daedalus, Ariadne, Theseus and the infamous labyrinth, it’s no wonder Heraklion boasts numerous museums teeming with artefacts found across the island. One of the most notable sites is the Palace of Knossos, Europe’s oldest city and home to grizzly tales of the minotaur, while the modern landscape is thriving with vibrant nightlife, shopping and dining.
Port Said is where the Mediterranean meets the Suez Canal, defined by a unique 19th century charm and grand, wooden balconied architecture. Established in 1859, the city serves as a nostalgic window into Egypt’s cosmopolitan past, offering a breezy waterfront atmosphere far removed from the country's more hectic urban centres. A visit here is anchored by watching massive container ships glide through the canal and taking the iconic free ferry to the sister city of Port Fuad, effectively crossing from Africa to Asia in minutes. Whether you are exploring the world’s first reinforced concrete lighthouse or sampling the day’s fresh catch at the bustling fish market, Port Said provides a captivating blend of engineering marvels and authentic coastal soul.
Marvel at Diocletian’s Palace, stroll along the Riva, and experience Croatia’s coastal charm.

MSCme App didn’t work and we had to keep asking for a paper copy of the information. Reduced staffing means longer waiting times and very busy waiters who forget orders. The outside cabin was cosy but had the smallest shower I have seen on over 10 cruises. The food was very good and the main dining room was lovey.

The ship was clean and the staff friendly. The breakfast food was normally tepid, and the evening buffet did not have much of a choice. This has not been a problem on the bigger MSC ships i. e. Virtuosa and WorldEuropa. The itinerary was good and Istanbul is well worth a visit. The shore excursions had very good guides, though expensive for what was included

Itinerary was our highlight. We were privileged to be able to upgrade to a balcony, being treated as having booked a suite with priority tender tickets. The room was lovely with a walk in wardrobe, ok little things like the silicone hanging off the side off the bath, the strip on the drawers being only held on by one piece of cellotape, these would have made dating less noticeable, some customers would downgrade a rating but the attention of staff in the restaurants, and bars (except pool bars) was great.
Pool bars can be a mission, until you realise the system (that's mostly in place). Ultimately we couldn't have visited 4 of our bucket list countries without Lirica, other liners are far more expensive. Food in restaurants was nice, although some days have too many obscure or unappetising options on the list, for some! I'm sure others would relish. Entertainment seemed ok. Shows were ok too. We were pleased to have a balcony as we don't enjoy being in the midst of hustle and bustle.

We travelled Aurea class and had anytime dining for the evening meal. On an Italian cruise the food was mainly directed towards the Italian clientele but with the assistance of the restaurant staff were able to find good food for our British taste. We were equally well served for breakfast and mid day meals. the Salmon and scrambled eggs breakfast were delicious
Our cabin was spacious and well equipped. We even had a bath in addition to the shower.
Overall the package was great

Witnessing the Suez Canal Convoy is a surreal experience that brings the sheer scale of international shipping into the middle of everyday city life. As you stand along the waterfront, gargantuan tankers and container ships appear to drift effortlessly past the end of residential streets, their hulls towering over the local skyline. This slow-motion parade of maritime giants moves in precise, daily schedules, offering a front row seat to one of the world's most critical trade arteries. Whether viewed from the deck of a local ferry or a quiet bench on the promenade, the sight of these steel leviathans gliding through the desert fringed channel is a majestic and unforgettable highlight of any visit.
Visit the Port Said Military Museum
A visit to the Port Said Military Museum provides a powerful look at the city’s strategic importance and its legacy of resistance during the 20th century. The museum is best known for its outdoor display, where a collection of captured tanks, aircraft, and artillery serves as a tangible record of the 1956 Suez Crisis and subsequent regional conflicts. Inside, the galleries use detailed dioramas and original artefacts to tell the story of the local citizens and soldiers who defended the canal. It is a sobering yet fascinating site that captures the resilient "City of the Brave" spirit and offers deep insight into modern Egyptian identity.
Stroll the Boardwalk & De Lesseps Base
The stroll along the renovated Boardwalk at the entrance of the Suez Canal is a walk through the very heart of global maritime history. As you follow the path where the Mediterranean meets the canal, you are met with the massive, empty stone pedestal that once held the statue of Ferdinand de Lesseps, the French diplomat who spearheaded the canal's construction. Toppled during the 1956 Suez Crisis, the vacant base now stands as a powerful symbol of Egyptian sovereignty and independence. Walking here offers a unique perspective: on one side, you have the historic architecture of a bygone era, and on the other, the surreal sight of modern, skyscraper sized vessels entering the channel, making it the perfect spot to feel the pulse of this vital international crossroads.

Description
Using Alexandria as a gateway to Cairo offers a fascinating transition from the Mediterranean "Pearl of Egypt" to the sprawling heart of the nation’s ancient wonders. After docking at Alexandria's historic port, a roughly three-hour drive across the Nile Delta leads you to the Giza Plateau, where the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx stand as the world's most iconic monuments. A day trip allows you to stand at the foot of these 4,500 year old structures, explore the treasures of the Egyptian Museum (or the new Grand Egyptian Museum), and navigate the vibrant chaos of the Khan el-Khalili bazaar. It is an ambitious but rewarding journey that bridges the Graeco Roman elegance of the coast with the monumental, timeless grandeur of the Pharaohs.
The Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx is a journey to the only surviving wonder of the ancient world, where the sheer scale of the 4,500 year old monuments defies modern imagination. Standing on the desert plateau, you can marvel at the precise engineering of the Great Pyramid of Khufu or descend into its narrow, atmospheric passages for a glimpse into the heart of a pharaoh's tomb. Nearby, the enigmatic Great Sphinx, carved from a single ridge of limestone, stands guard over the necropolis, its lion-bodied form weathered by millennia of sand and wind. Whether viewed from a camel’s back at sunset or up close from the base of the massive limestone blocks, the site offers an unparalleled connection to the dawn of human civilization.
Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa
A visit to the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa offers a fascinating descent into one of the "Seven Wonders of the Middle Ages," where three levels of subterranean tombs are carved directly into the bedrock. As you navigate the spiral staircase originally used to lower bodies into the depths you encounter a surreal fusion of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman artistic styles, such as statues of Anubis wearing Roman legionary armour. The journey takes you through the haunting Hall of Caracalla and into the main tomb chamber, where ancient myths are etched into stone in a dim, atmospheric setting. It is a quiet, mysterious experience that perfectly captures the multicultural complexity of Alexandria’s storied past.
Bibliotheca Alexandrina
Bibliotheca Alexandrina is a highlight of modern Egypt, standing as a spectacular architectural tribute to the ancient Great Library of Alexandria. Designed as a massive, tilting sun disk shimmering on the Mediterranean waterfront, its granite exterior is carved with characters from 120 different scripts, symbolising the global nature of knowledge. Inside, you can explore a vast, sun drenched reading room that cascades across eleven levels, or visit its specialized museums dedicated to antiquities, rare manuscripts, and the history of science. It is a vibrant cultural hub where the scholarly spirit of antiquity meets cutting-edge design, offering a peaceful and intellectually stimulating retreat from the bustling city streets.

Packages are sold on a per cruise basis and not per day or any other basis. The price applies to all days of the cruise except the day of disembarkation. Once activated on board, packages cannot be cancelled or refunded. Packages must be booked by all guests occupying the same cabin, travelling together and wishing to dine at the same table. This includes minors, for whom the Minors Package must be booked.
If you wish to dine together you must be on the same drinks package. Regardless of which drinks package you choose, a Minors Package must be purchased for all children within the travel party. For example, if you're travelling in a group of two adults and two children, both adults must be on the same package and the children on the Minors Package.
The package is not compulsory for children under 3 years of age (i.e. who have not yet reached their third birthday). The following items are not included in the package: tobacco, souvenir glasses, ice cream menu, retail items, minibar and room service. The following exclusions apply: tobacco, souvenir glasses, ice cream menu, retail items, minibar, room service, promotions and Signature Venues (Venchi 1878, Jean-Philippe Maury venues, MSC Virtuosa Starship Club) regardless of the price of the drinks. You must be of legal age to consume alcohol. Other terms and conditions may apply. Guests under the legal drinking age with respect to the ship's operating area are not permitted to purchase or consume alcohol. Drinks and liquor may be substituted according to availability and itinerary.
Please note, if you have purchased a drinks package after 18th December 2024 and are departing on a sailing from 1st April 2025 onwards, you will have a limit of 15 alcoholic drinks per person, per day. There is no cap on non-alcoholic drinks and you'll have the option to purchase additional alcoholic drinks. This is also applicable for MSC Yacht Club guests. However, if you have purchased your drinks package before 18th December 2024, OR your sailing is before April 1st 2025 this limit does not apply.
Please be advised that in respect to the Saudi Law, alcohol will not be served during the Calls in Saudi Arabian ports. Alcohol will be available to our guests when the ship sails in International Waters.
