Anne Frank House
Located next to Westerkerk, the Anne Frank House is a museum that honours the Jewish wartime diarist Anne Frank. Situated on the Prinsengracht Canal, this fascinating but sorrowful landmark makes for a harrowing visit.
Vondelpark
This picturesque park spans an incredible 120 acres. Full of picturesque flora and fauna, it features a cafe, bandstand and more. A tranquil way to spend your day in Amsterdam, many people choose to ride bikes around it.
Utrecht
DAY 3
06 Apr 2026
Time at Port: TBD
Despite being among the biggest cities in the Netherlands outside of Amsterdam, Utrecht really is the definition of a hidden gem when it comes to this incredible Central European nation. A destination boasting beautiful canals throughout the city centre, a collection of unique museums exploring historical and cultural topics, interesting landmarks and symbolic sites, and an abundance of charming cafes and sensational restaurants, it’s a sensational spot with something for every type of traveller. A bustling city with plenty of greenspace for strolling, if the scenic canals aren’t to your liking, explorers and culture vultures alike will enjoy spending some time here. You can even opt to canoe through the canals, stopping off at waterside cafes and bars serving local beers, if you want the best of both worlds! Or, as an increasingly cycle-friendly city, why not rent a bicycle to take Utrecht by storm? Just north of the Rhine, this compact city has everything you need in walking distance, and rewards everyone who visits – whether you decide to adventure further afield or stick to the city centre.
Things to do in Utrecht:
Castle De Haar
Pulled right from a picture-book, Castle De Haar is among the largest and most luxurious castles in the Netherlands and a must-visit destination while in Utrecht. An impressive medieval castle reconstructed in the early 16th century, following the fortifications’ destruction in 1482, this site is rich with interesting stories of the affluent van Zuylen family; the interior is elegantly decorated with ornamented woodworking, stunning artwork, and more – all reflecting the wealth and status of the former occupants. Visiting here, you’ll have the chance to learn more about them and get an insight into what life was like for the wealthy throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. The gardens are also an incredible place to walk, and the sights you’ll see here are stunning both inside and out.
Museum Speelklok
Housed in a former church in the centre of Utrecht, Museum Speelklok is a unique museum exploring the history of self-playing musical instruments – while also being home to industry-leading restoration workshops. Offering a fascinating insight into the minute detail that goes into the mechanical machinery of these marvelous musical devices, most of the items on display are still playable for visitors. It’s a little unusual, but you’re certainly going to remember a visit to this incredible museum.
Nijntje Museum
If you’re travelling with young children, a visit to the Nijntje Museum is a must. Somewhere designed to reflect the philosophy of Dutch children’s author and illustrator Dick Bruna, who created the cute rabbit Miffy (which is known as Nijntje in the Netherlands), you’ll find plenty of interactive exhibits and activities to enjoy here. With the goal of providing children with a safe world to explore, Bruna’s work is charming, but comes with an important message. Here, you’ll have the chance to appreciate that while your children discover interesting sights, smells, sounds, and more.
Paddling The Canals
One of the best ways to explore Utrecht, spending some time paddling through the city’s canals is one way to guarantee your visit will be a memorable one. Not only are you going to have the chance to discover all the incredible bars, cafes, and restaurants, you’ll also be able to see all the sights of this charming city from a unique perspective. When the sun is shining, this is an experience you won’t want to miss out on.
Nijmegen, Netherlands
DAY 3
06 Apr 2026
Time at Port: TBD
On the banks of the scenic Waal River, and quite close to the Dutch border with Germany, sits the city of Nijmegen – a delightful destination just waiting to be discovered on a river cruise through Central Europe. Recognised as one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, being founded as Novio Magus in 98 AD by Roman Emperor Trajan, Nijmegen is steeped in history; here, you’ll find Ancient Roman archeological ruins, fortifications and castles from the Middle Ages to the Early Modern period, and more to explore. However, as interesting as this region’s history is, there’s so much more to Nijmegen than just that. The hilly region south of the city, around the town of Groesbeek, has recently become renowned for its wine production; so, if you’re looking for a unique wine tasting experience in the Dutch countryside, a visit to Nijmegen is the perfect time to do just that. The calm Linge River, which sits north of the city centre, is also a popular spot for riverside walks and scenic cycling routes. It’s also an ideal spot for canoeing and paddle boarding, an activity that will give you time to soak in the stunning views of the Dutch landscape on offer here. With all this available alongside all the amenities and activities you’d expect from a major European city, and the chance to enjoy authentic Dutch cuisine, Nijmegen is a remarkable river cruise destination everyone will enjoy – whether you’re looking to spend your time exploring the region’s rich history, soaking up the scenery by relaxing riverside, or embracing the outdoors with something a little more active.
Things to do in Nijmegen, Netherlands:
Museum De Bastei
A unique museum exploring Nijmegen’s history with the Waal River, Museum De Bastei blends cultural and military history with natural history to deliver a comprehensive learning experience that touches on all aspects of this city’s past. Found within a 16th century defensive tower, you’ll encounter underground tunnels where the ruins of Roman walls remain, a mammoth skull found in the local region, some of the flowers you’ll come across in nearby nature reserves, and more. If you want to know more about this remarkable city, this is a must-visit museum.
Hernen Castle
A short drive from Nijmegen city centre, in the village of Hernen, you’ll find the aptly-named Hernen Castle: a well-preserved 14th century medieval castle where you can learn a lot about what life was like in the Middle Ages. Interestingly, it’s the only castle in the Netherlands with a sheltered allure – the walk-way behind a castle’s battlements. It’s also one castle that has never once been besieged, something which has meant that it was never built upon and reinforced as a fortification. So, what we see today is largely what the castle would have been like when it was in active use.
Doornenburg Castle
Doorenburg Castle is among the largest and most interesting medieval fortifications in the Netherlands, and it boasts a fascinating history. A short distance north west of Nijmegen city centre, this castle was first built as a fortified manor house throughout the 9th century, before being converted into a castle officially in the 13th century. Damaged during the Second World War, what we see today is a restored Doorenburg Castle; while not the original, it’s still an impressive structure with an interesting story to learn.
Walking and Hiking
Nijmegen and the surrounding area is renowned as an excellent place to explore on foot, whether you’re walking at a leisurely pace or hiking with purpose up to an elevated viewpoint. In fact, it hosts the largest walking event each year: the Four Days Marches. One of the most popular routes in the region, the N70 Nature Trail, will give you a chance to soak up the stunning scenery of the region on a 14 km route that cuts through the Berg en Dal forests. You’ll enjoy views of the rolling hills, the Waal and Rhine riverlands, and more on this trail – something that makes it all the more rewarding.
Antwerp
DAY 4
07 Apr 2026
Time at Port: TBD
From stunning architecture and intriguing museums to charming cafes and bustling bars, Antwerp is one Belgian city worth exploring when you arrive along the Scheldt. Home to rich cultural experiences and a vibrant atmosphere, this city is buzzing with things to see and do; there will be something every type of traveller can enjoy in Antwerp. If you’re someone who wants to stroll the cobblestone streets soaking in the sights, stopping to sample some local sweet treats or sip on a regional beer brewed mere minutes away, Antwerp is the perfect place to do just that with an incredible historic city centre. And, those looking for a more concentrated cultural experience will find a variety of world-class museums and art galleries to explore, whether you’re looking for galleries overflowing with contemporary art, exhibits on Antwerp’s modern history, an exploration of the history of printing, or even a war museum that’s set within a former bunker! If, though, you’re someone who would rather avoid the crowds, you’ll never be too far away from a park in Antwerp; this city is home to an abundance of green spaces, with some of the most impressive surrounding remarkable palaces and castles. That’s far from everything Antwerp has to offer though, and the options are near-endless when it comes to the shore experiences available here. From intimate brewery tours and indulgent shopping sprees to finding hidden fortifications and tucking into freshly-baked pastries, there’s something for everyone in this vibrant city.
Things to do in Antwerp:
Kasteel Schoonselhof
An impressive 16th century pleasure palace that was born of an agricultural settlement from centuries before, Kasteel Schoonselhof is a fantastic example of neoclassical architecture, boasting extensive grounds worth spending some time exploring. While much of what we see today is the result of 19th-century renovations, tangible traces of the original buildings remain – hinting at the remarkable history found here. Located on the edge of Antwerp, with grounds home to an important cemetery, this castle pulls you from the hustle and bustle of this vibrant city and invites you to appreciate the unique serenity that comes with such elegant gardens.
Middelheimmuseum
Middelheimmuseum is a must-visit destination in Antwerp, especially if the sun is shining, and somewhere where you’ll always find something new to discover. A charming (and largely open-air) modern art museum boasting a collection of around 400 works of art, Middelheimmuseum invites you to explore the vibrant park surrounding Kasteel Middelheim – an area which is littered with impressive statues and sculptures from talented artists like Auguste Rodin, Rik Wouters, Henry Moore, and more. In the park, you’ll also find Braem Pavilion and Collection Pavilion, two areas where you’ll find the more fragile and delicate artworks on display.
Chocolate Nation
The world’s largest Belgian chocolate museum, Chocolate Nation is a fascinating destination to visit when in Antwerp – even if you don’t have much of a sweet tooth. Home to a number of interesting exhibits on the history of chocolate-making, what it’s like being a chocolatier, and how Belgian chocolate stands out from the rest of the world’s chocolate, this museum is so much more than hands-on workshops and taste-testing – although, those are definitely worth the trip, too!
Museum aan de Stroom (MAS)
A remarkable museum in a striking modern structure, Museum aan de Stroom (which translates as Museum on the River) is a fascinating place that explores Antwerp’s connection to the wider world through exhibits on history, art, culture, international shipping trade, and more. Home to eight exhibition spaces and a collection of over 600,000 objects of interest, you’ll also enjoy incredible panoramic views of the surrounding area from the top of this 60-metre tall building – should you venture up onto the roof terrace, anyway.
