The holiday was good, the facilities on the ship were also very good, BUT beware of the hidden extras and be prepared to queue!
We boarded the ship at Barcelona after spending a couple of days in the city, the taxi arrived at our hotel on time got us to the ship, the check in was smooth and organised well. The cabin was very nice, well appointed with a balcony, so no issues there, we were very pleased.
The issues we have with hidden costs started before we got on board, if you do not ask the ship to remove gratuities then you will have $400 added to your final bill, and this will not be removed if you dispute it at the end. Now i'm sorry but as far as I'm concerned gratuities are at our discretion and not to be inforced to make up wages!! If this is the case then charge more for the initial ticket, do not sneak it on at the end. We had it removed and tipped all the waiting staff that gave good service (and to be fair that was most, service was very good, but not from all!) Our room cleaner was excellent, she got a good tip, dining room staff that were pleasant and always helped, they got tips, but I hate having it enforced.
The drinks package was a rip off for us, if you are in the same room then you both have to have a drinks package, now I do not drink alchohol so this was very expensive for me, but my wife does, so I'm paying a lot of money for drinks i'm not having!! And if we ordered 2 drinks (a soft drink and an alchoholic drink), then both cards were needed to allocate the drinks to our room, so why did we have to have the same packages when they are added individually? Very annoying.
We booked through Iglu Cruises and bought a drinks and wifi package, but when we got the ship we were told we could only get very basic, very slow wifi (which was free to everyone, so I'm not sure what we paid for?), so we had to pay an extra $99 per person for wifi, which again was very annoying.
We bought the cruise company excursions, which were organised ok, but with so many people going on the same excursions it was a little chaotic and sometimes directions were lacking and people were walking to the wrong car parks to collect buses etc, because the staff were not directing properly. It turns an excursion into a stressful day, NOT what holidays are about. The costs of the excursions as well are high, as upon talking to seasoned travellers (on cruises), they organise local taxis and guides and get a far better experience (going to the same tourist sites and getting a smaller party and better experience) at a far lower price!
The other experience that was a pain is dining, as the main eating hall was not large enough for the amount of people and finding seating was such a pain it made the experience painful at times. Many people left the dining room in disgust and left food sitting on the side as they had nowhere to eat, and that was wasting food.
The food itself was very good, the selection was great, many favourites there all the time, but changing specials appropriate to where we were at that time (Greek night, Turkish night etc).
I cannot fault the food, staff, entertainment and general service BUT the behind the scenes constant money grabbing by the company was a bit much.
The only thing I do like to drink is a latte, there was a nice cafe on deck 5, which was also very busy and finding a seat was very hard and again stressfull when all you want to do is relax. Because they were so busy they got my order wrong or just plain forgot it several times, no proper queuing system making customers order from all places, making the staff stressed and forgetful. There needs to be another cafe elsewhere as with 2500 passengers 1 cafe is not enough.
So to conclude, the cruise was good most of the time, but stressful at times when this is the last thing you want after saving all year to relax. The food was good, a lot of the staff were very pleasant and very hard working, the ship in general is well appointed BUT the money grabbing and Disney style of "if you pay loads extra, we'll give what we should be giving you anyway", a rip of company in the background. . . . just state the correct price for the service at the start, don't keep coming out with hidden costs and false promisses.

Rome (Civitavecchia)
DAY 1
30 Sep 2025
Time at Port: from 5 AM to 5 PM
Today's Civitavecchia was born as an Etruscan village along the Tyrrhenian coast, but it is believed that the territory has been inhabited since the Neolithic era. The first documents mentioning the city date back to the year 107 AD; the same as the construction of the port which ended three years later. During a stop in Civitavecchia you can visit the Taurine Baths, the Michelangelo Fort, and the Cathedral.
Things to do in Rome (Civitavecchia):
Terme Taurine
The Taurine Baths - a Roman archaeological site dating back to the 1st century BC - are located around 4km from the urban centre of Civitavecchia. There is a legend that says the baths came to be after a bull scraped at the ground before a fight, and in doing so uncovered a hot water spring.
Aquafelix Waterpark
Aquafelix Waterpark is ideal for a day of fun with your family and friends. It is the largest water park in central Italy, and boasts areas dedicated to both adults and children.
Forte Michelangelo
The construction of the Michelangelo Fort began in 1508 and ended in 1537. The structure of the fortress, in true Renaissance style, has the shape of a quadrilateral with a tower in each corner, and the central tower has an octagonal layout. Its creation was ordered by Pope Julius II, to defend the Port of Civitavecchia against pirates and any other hostile encounters.
Cathedrale de Civitavecchia
The Cathedral of San Francesco d'Assisi is the most important church of Civitavecchia. Dating back to the 17th century and completely restored in 1950, it has a Baroque style and stands on the remains of a previous Franciscan church.
Capri (Naples)
DAY 2
01 Oct 2025
Time at Port: from 7 AM to 6 PM
The small and charming island of Capri is located in the Gulf of Naples, south-west of the Sorrento peninsula, to which it was once connected. Its coasts boast numerous caves and quarries alternating with steep cliffs. Capri is divided into the municipalities of Capri and Anacapri, and there is a total of about 14,000 inhabitants. The Blue Grotto, the Gardens of Augustus, the Villa San Michele and the Monte Solaro are some of the places of interest that are worth a visit.
Things to do in Capri (Naples):
Anacapri
Anacapri is one of the two administrative municipalities of the island of Capri. It rises on the slopes of Monte Solaro, and is where the Blue Grotto and Villa San Michele are located. Visitors shroud take the time to tackle the Phoenician steps in order to then enjoy the stunning views below.
Blue Grotto
The Blue Grotto, whose beauty has been praised many times by many poets, is undoubtedly the best known spot in the island of Capri. The enclosed cave owes its name to the shade of blue that the pool of water takes on, thanks to the light that filters through a partially submerged opening.
Gardens of Augustus
The Gardens of Augustus make up a gorgeous city park on the island of Capri. It is an extensive botanical garden, hosting many different plants typical of the area. It also offers a breathtaking view of the Faraglioni rock formation, and the bay of Marina Piccola.
Marina Piccola
Marina Piccola is one of the tourist hot spots on the island of Capri. Located on the opposite side of the main port and not far from the gardens of Augustus, most visitors love to take a dip in its crystal clear waters and gaze at the view of the Faraglioni rock formation.
Monte Solaro
Mount Solaro, at 589 meters high, is formed by the same limestone of which the entire island of Capri is made. A hike here enables visitors to see around a thousand different species of plants, and the rare blue lizard, the only one of its kind in the world.
Ville San Michele
Villa San Michele is located in the municipality of Anacapri, in the north of the island. It owes its name to the ruins of a 10th century chapel dedicated to San Michele. The villa is also home to a majestic statue of a sphinx looking out to sea, which dates back to the reign of Ramses II in the 13th century BC.
Mount Vesuvius
The profile of Naples would not be the same without Mount Vesuvius that dominates the city skyline. Versuvius is known for the violent eruption of AD 79, which became famous for the destruction of Pompeii and Herculaneum, and was witnessed by Pliny the Younger.
Pompeii
The history of Pompeii begins in the 9th century BC, when the area was inhabited by the Opici people - an ancient Latin population. Today the town is famous because of the eruption of Vesuvius, which occurred in 79 AD, which led to its total destruction.
National Archaeological Museum
The opening of the historic National Archaeological Museum of Naples took place in 1816. Built by Ferdinando I of Borbone, at the time king of the Two Sicilies, it boasts the richest collection of works and archaeological finds with regard to Roman history.
Herculaneum
The tremendous eruption of Vesuvius, in 79 AD, not only destroyed Pompeii but also the ancient city of Herculaneum. The archaeological excavations of this city can be visited today and, since 1997, are part of the UNESCO World Heritage List.

In the 1860s, the Italian navy constructed a base in La Spezia, which later developed into one of its main dockyards and arsenals. The museum got its start in the 18th century with an exhibition of objects from the Savoy royal family's navy at Villafranca and subsequently in Genoa. In 1870, it was moved to La Spezia.
