We have just returned from a 4-night cruise on Ambience, and overall we had a very enjoyable experience. The ship is compact and easy to navigate, which was especially helpful as we were travelling with my 80-year-old mum and my 25-year-old nephew. The food was good throughout the cruise. I particularly liked that the buffet is served by staff rather than passengers helping themselves—it felt much more hygienic. One tip: go for breakfast before 8:30 am, as finding a table afterwards becomes very difficult. We were disappointed that we couldn't book either of the speciality restaurants. By the time we asked at Reception on embarkation day, they were already fully booked. We weren't aware there was an option to book before boarding, so perhaps this could be made clearer. We mainly ate in Buckingham Restaurant, which serves much of the same food as Borough Market buffet, with one or two additional dishes not available in the buffet. Unfortunately, the table service was very slow, so we ended up dining there only about half the time. The famous Baked Alaska dessert was delicious, and the parade of waiters and chefs when it was served was great fun. The entertainment wasn't of the highest standard, but it was still enjoyable. If you're expecting West End-quality productions, you may be disappointed, but the performers worked hard and we enjoyed the shows. Most daytime activities are aimed at the over-60s, so it was sometimes difficult to find activities that suited everyone in our group. One unexpected bonus was that the swimming pool was very cold! Many people avoided it, which meant it was never crowded, and I actually enjoyed having plenty of space to swim. The crew deserve a special mention. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly, attentive and worked incredibly hard throughout the cruise. Overall, we had a lovely time and would happily sail on Ambience again. It's a particularly good choice for couples, families travelling with older relatives, and anyone looking for a relaxed, friendly cruise at good value.
Very friendly and helpful staff, good entertainment, good food in main restaurant and good variety at the lunchtime buffet. Many repeat customers so that is a good sign. Mid size ship/passenger number 1200 approx. No delays embarking at ports. Swimming pool area in big need of updating. The relaxation pool was out of action, the same for the hot tubs, only one working. This is not acceptable. The ship is old but comfortable. Variety of entertainment in the theatre, good shows. Didnt enjoy the pianist in Raffles need something more upbeat.
Very enjoyable 15 night cruise. Ship excellent, so the crew, and the food, the latter more like 5 star with plenty of choice & very hygienic after their issues earlier in the spring. We really like the fact there aren't many days at sea, & most days have a different port-of-call.
