Château ducal de Cadillac
Château ducal de Cadillac, the Ducal Castle of Cadillac, boasts a fascinating history and some impressive architecture, making it one of the most famous historic landmarks in the region and a must-visit when spending time in Cadillac-sur-Garonne. Constructed throughout the early 17th century, this impressive structure was once a formal residence for the Duke of Epernon, boasting impressive interiors that highlighted his wealth as a member of the French nobility favoured by the king. In the early 19th century, however, it was transformed into a women’s prison. The first women’s prison in France after the French Revolution, it was renowned for its poor conditions, though it remained active until 1952. Founded in 1490 and rebuilt in the mid-16th century, Église Saint-Blaise et Saint-Martin is a historic church in the heart of Cadillac-sur-Garonne and a fantastic example of the rich history you’ll have the chance to admire and explore when you spend some time here. Decorated with statues of Saint Paul and Saint Peter, the vestry of this church is made of rubble rather than the ashlar stone used elsewhere.
