The Taurine Baths - a Roman archaeological site dating back to the 1st century BC - are located around 4km from the urban centre of Civitavecchia. There is a legend that says the baths came to be after a bull scraped at the ground before a fight, and in doing so uncovered a hot water spring.

Aquafelix Waterpark is ideal for a day of fun with your family and friends. It is the largest water park in central Italy, and boasts areas dedicated to both adults and children.

The construction of the Michelangelo Fort began in 1508 and ended in 1537. The structure of the fortress, in true Renaissance style, has the shape of a quadrilateral with a tower in each corner, and the central tower has an octagonal layout. Its creation was ordered by Pope Julius II, to defend the Port of Civitavecchia against pirates and any other hostile encounters.

The Cathedral of San Francesco d'Assisi is the most important church of Civitavecchia. Dating back to the 17th century and completely restored in 1950, it has a Baroque style and stands on the remains of a previous Franciscan church.

The Livorno Aquarium was first established in 1937, and was reopened again in 2010, following expansion works. It is the only venue of its kind to boast a Greek-Roman archaeological marine area, which houses a reproduction of a ship wreck.

The charm of the Old Fortress portrays the entire history of the city of Livorno. The area has been affected by numerous settlements since the Bronze Age, and the fortification itself has gone through several stages up to the present day.

The neighborhood of Venezia Nuova is the true historic center of the Livorno. During the months of July and August it hosts the music and arts event known as "Effetto Venezia", ​​where you can find shows, cultural events, and stalls.

The Terrazza Mascagni owes its name to the eponymous composer from Livorno. Located on the seafront of the city, the open terrace was designed in the 1920s and then expanded after World War II. It offers gorgeous views of the ocean and a lovely setting for socialising under the sun.

The Mercato delle Vettovaglie, also known as the Central Market, is an interesting 19th-century building overlooking the Fosso Reale canal in Livorno. The interior of the main hall was designed by Lorenzo Gori, and is a beautiful spot for exploring and buying local produce.

Piazza della Repubblica has been a popular social meeting place ever since nineteenth-century Livorno. It is most commonly known as "Voltone" by the locals, due to the vault that covers part of the Fosso Reale canal, which it overlooks.

One for all the family to enjoy, the Aquarium of Genoa is the largest in Italy. It was designed by local architect Renzo Piano, and built in 1992 to mark the 500 year anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ arrival to the New World. Within its more than 70 tanks live around 600 different animal species, and 200 species of plants. You’ll find representations of the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic, and Caribbean Sea at the aquarium.

Originally called the Strada Maggiore, or Strada Nuova, this street was named after famous general Giuseppe Garibaldi in 1882. Over the 16th and 17th centuries the wealthy nobility of the area set about restoring and reforming existing dated mansions, which resulted in the creation of more than ten fabulous palazzi (palaces). The street became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2006, and today the beautiful buildings act as banks, shops, offices, the Town Hall, and clubs.

The Cattedrale di San Lorenzo was first built in the late 11th century. It houses the ashes of St John the Baptist, the city’s patron saint, which are said to have arrived in Genoa at the end of the First Crusade. Over the years the building has suffered destruction and consequent repair works, which has led to the juxtaposition of varying architectural styles. There is evidence of Romanesque, Gothic, Mannerist, and Byzantine style which makes for a beautiful and intriguing image.

The city’s main square is named after Raffaele de Ferrari, the Duke of Galliera who donated a large sum of money to modernise Genoa in the mid-19th century. There are both modern and historic buildings surrounding the square, and it also boasts a beautiful fountain in the middle which many people enjoy sitting at with a gelato in hand. Piazza de Ferrari is a popular meeting place among tourists and locals alike, and is also frequently used for events.

It is believed that Genoa’s lighthouse dates back to the 12th century. It has long represented Genoa, proudly displaying the city’s coat of arms since the mid-14th century – a feature that can be seen on many ancient nautical maps. The signalling light was once fuelled by fragrant plants such as juniper, heather, and briar root, until (olive) oil lamps were introduced in around 1345. The lighthouse has seen many keepers over the centuries, one of whom was Antonio Columbus – Christopher Columbus’ uncle.

Today, the Palazzo Reale is a spectacular national museum displaying a range of 17th, 18th and 19th century furniture, art, and other artefacts. It was constructed for the Balbi family in 1618, sold to the Durazzo family in 1677, and then became the royal House of Savoy’s property in 1823. Since 1919 the palace has belonged to the state, and has welcomed visitors. The Gilded Hall of Mirrors and collection of 17th century art are particularly special.

Le Strade Nuove is Italian for ‘the new street’, and in Genoa this collectively refers to the magnificent Via Garibaldi, Via Cairoli, and Via Balbi. This area of the city is home to some exquisite mansions, which in 1576 were registered on the Palazzi dei Rolli – a list of palaces. Being on this list meant that when important visitors came to Genoa, the wealthy families who owned the mansions would take turns in hosting them.

Many say that the activity at the historic port of Genoa is what inspired local boy Christopher Columbus in his childhood to go on to undertake discovery voyages – one of which would lead to European settlement in the Americas. Today, a walk around the bustling port can transport you to years gone by, as you imagine the travellers, trade, and business that went on way back when just as it does now. Gaze at historic buildings and busy streets, many of which were revamped in the 1990s by Italian architect Renzo Piano.

Climb Mont Furon in just six minutes thanks to this cable car that is as thrilling as it is convenient. Once at the top the views are unrivalled in the region, with great panoramas both out to sea and over the city with its backdrop of a peaceful forest.

One of the five naval museums of France, this fascinating museum is based in the old port arsenal, which you enter through the grand guard gates. Inside, you’ll find many interesting exhibitions from scale model ships to naval clothing and equipment.

The place to be on sunny days, the sandy beaches host numerous activities, including watersports, for families. Awarded the blue flag label as an environmentally-friendly space, there are even ramps for those in wheelchairs to roll down and enjoy the water.

The construction of this Gothic and Romanesque cathedral began in the 11th century and was completed in the 18th. Toulon Cathedral is a national monument and inside you’ll find many treasures such as two paintings by famous Baroque artist Pierre Puget.

Though this hidden gem may be a little off the beaten track, Cala S’Alguer is an intimate, quaint beach lined with whitewashed fishermen’s houses, bars and lush pinewood. Escape from the hustle and bustle of city life and relax in this tranquil photographer’s dream.

Found at the end of La Fosca beach, Castell de Sant Esteve is a great example of Palamo’s traditional architecture from around the 12th and 13th centuries. It is not known exactly when the castle was founded, but it’s still worth exploring these eerie ruins.

The fishing trade in Palamos is a spectacle in itself, though to truly uncover the history of this industry, a visit to the Museu de la Pesca is well worth it. Through a range of exhibitions and activities, discover what it’s like to be a real fisherman!

Pointe de la Parata is where you’ll find the perfect spot to watch the sunset, as well as the Tower of Parata, a ruined Genoese tower built in the 1550’s. A walking route will take you to the best viewpoints as well as the clear, blue sea where you can take a dip.

Situated in the heart of Ajaccio, the Fesch Museum is dedicated to fine arts, particularly Early Italian and Renaissance pieces. With one of France’s largest collections of Italian works, the Fesch Museum is a must visit for art-enthusiasts.

The home in which the great and controversial leader, Napoléon, was born, Maison Bonaparte is must visit in Ajaccio. Now preserved as a museum dedicated to memorabilia of the family, this house provides great insight into one of the biggest names in history.

Found in Ajaccio’s town hall is an ornate gallery showcasing paintings, sculptures, medals and other memorabilia connected to Napoleon and donated by the Bonaparte family. Most notable is the full-length portrait of Napoleon himself.

Officially the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption of Ajaccio, this Baroque-style church was where Napoleon was baptised in 1771. While the exterior is modest and subtle, visitors will find rich, grand décor within including a stunning organ.

The Basilica of San Simplicio is the most important place of worship in the north-east of Sardinia. Built between the end of the 11th and the second half of the 12th century, it is dedicated to San Simplicio, the first bishop of Olbia. The style is mainly Pisan Romanesque.

The Castle of Pedres, built in the mid-thirteenth century, is an ancient medieval fort not far from the city center of Olbia. At the time, it defended the territory of Civita, the ancient name of the city, and the borders with the nearby Giudicato di Torres.

The Costa Smeralda is included in the municipality of Arzachena, in the province of Sassari. The renowned tourist region extends for about 50 km, boasts numerous inlets and small beaches and sees its centre in the hamlet of Porto Cervo.

The Tomb of the Giants of Su Mont’e s’Abe is one of the many structures that, in the Nuragic era, were widely distributed in Sardinia and used for collective burial. Dating back to the 2nd millennium BC, it is located not far from the Castle of Pedres.

Found in the heart of Palma, La Seu is a stunning Catalan Gothic style cathedral, with renowned architect Antoni Gaudí contributing to its intricate design. Featuring 61 stained-glass windows, the building flooding with coloured light inside is simply a must.

Built in the 14th century, Bellver Castle is surrounded by lush pine woods and houses an insightful museum of Palma’s municipal history. Visitors will love taking a walk around the moat before admiring the view out over the city and bay from the rooftop.

Combining both prehistoric and modern finds, the Archaeological Museum of Alicante boasts five separate galleries housing numerous audio and visual exhibits. Visitors will find artefacts from Iberian cultures, plus the Roman and Middle Ages.

The oldest active church in Alicante, the Basilica of Santa Maria is in a Valencian Gothic style and a must for any architecture enthusiast. The main entrance is an impressive Baroque sculpture, while the interior includes a golden 18th-century Rococo style main altar.

This modernist building was the last residence to be designed by Antoni Gaudí and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can explore the building with an audio guide, and even enjoy rooftop shows on a romantic evening.

One of Barcelona’s oldest beaches, Sant Sebastià Beach features everything you need for a fantastic day in the sun. With indoor and outdoor pools, changing rooms and amenities for lounging, visitors can go for a dip, enjoy an ice cream and find dinner all in one area.
