Resembling more of a small ocean cruise ship than a river ship, the Viking Helgi carries 210 guests through the rivers of Russia in luxury. Along with its sisters, the Akun, Truvor and Ingvar, it is fitted with over 100 staterooms and four spacious suites, and features a substantially “foreign” design to the rest of the Viking fleet.

Cuisine and Dining on Viking Helgi

While still having the same concept as the rest of Viking’s ships, passengers will notice that the areas are branded differently. First is the Neva Restaurant. The casual elegance of the Restaurant is a defining point of Viking’s river cruises, providing outstanding views of the scenery with its panoramic windows and specially prepared regional specialties on fine china.

The ship loses the Aquavit Terrace but still retains the Bar which is known as the Panorama Bar. The Bar is an incredibly relaxing place for passengers to gather on the classy evenings for fine wine and conversation.

Entertainment on Viking Helgi

The Viking ships are designed more for the culturally invested and traditional travellers. As such, there are a number of demonstrations, cooking classes and dance performances on board. Viking offers talks and lectures regarding the history of places you visit, from the Dutch Masters or French impressionists to the life and works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Included in these talks are tastes of the local wines and cuisines as well as lessons in key words and phrases of different languages. All of which are enhanced by the exemplary excursions on land.

Recreation on Viking Helgi

In the times where you are just looking to sit back and relax, there is a Library and internet room for the literary travellers to partake in. While there is no fitness suite/gym and the ship also loses the Walking Track normally found on the longships, there is plenty of time on land during excursions or even a stroll to exercise and partake in a number of activities available.

"I booked my first ever cruise on Tuesday 5th September 2017. After lengthy searching and much deliberation we booked through Iglu. So far, I am incredibly happy I booked with Iglu. This being our first cruise Debi proved very helpful. I was [also] very impressed with the level of assistance offered by Connie. She answered my questions and put my mind at rest. I am very impressed with all aspects of dealing with Iglu and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your support. "
