Here, you’ll find the beautiful Lovers Beach, perfect for snorkelling, before walking up Mount Solmar for unrivalled photo opportunities out over the town and the bay. Heading back into town the Museum of Natural History is a great for families while the resort to the east is a must for golf fans.

Natural History Museum
This free museum is home to many exhibits, highlighting the fascinating archaeology, geology and culture of the area, including the history of the original inhabitants of Los Cabos, the Pericúes. Visitors will also find exhibits on the marine life, including the bones of a whale

Just west of Panama City, at the Pacific Ocean entrance to the Panama Canal, Fuerte Amador is one of the most unique ports of call on any Americas cruise. Not only does this destination afford you the opportunity to marvel at the Panama Canal, one of the world’s most impressive feats of human engineering, from afar — with the viewpoint at the Miraflores Locks a particularly good spot to do this – but it’s also a port of call that’s just a short distance from both the bustling urban centre of Panama City and the vibrant tropical jungles that surround it. This destination really does have it all, with every kind of traveller finding something to enjoy here, from impressive colonial era historical landmarks like Panama Viejo and the Metropolitan Cathedral of Panama to interesting cultural attractions like Biomuseo and Mi Pueblito – the latter being a unique outdoor theme park featuring faithful recreations of colonial and indigenous buildings and exhibits on Panamanian folklore. Those of you who want to spend your time ashore connecting to nature a little more, however, will want to venture further inland to the Soberania National Park; just a couple of hours from the cruise port, this is a breathtaking slice of the tropical paradise that covers so much of this unique Central American nation and home to historical trails dating back to the 16th century.

Panama Viejo
An UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the suburbs of Panama City, Panama Viejo is the last remaining part of the original Panama City, the former capital of this nation and a settlement that was destroyed by Welsh privateer Henry Morgan in 1671. Home to several unique ruins, this historic site offers visitors an insight into Panama City during the 16th century and the tumultuous start to this city’s colonial period.
Biomuseo
A unique museum designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry, his first design for Latin America, this modern attraction is focused fully on exploring the natural history of Panama – and the personal impact of humans on the environment, both Panamanian and otherwise. Located on the Amador Causeway, you’ll enjoy fantastic views of Panama City and the surrounding seascape from the grounds of this museum, and the bright exterior of Biomuseo is a sight to behold from afar too.
Metropolitan Cathedral of Panama City
Consecrated as a Roman Catholic Church in 1796, following over 100 years of construction, the Metropolitan Cathedral of Panama City was designed by military engineer Nicolas Rodriguez and boasts two white-plastered towers flanking an intricately designed Jesuit style façade. One of the most unique churches in Latin America, it’s a stone’s throw from Plaza de la Catedral and Plaza de la Independencia, both open areas where you’ll find interesting museums, restaurants, and more.

Joining the mighty Atlantic to the vast Pacific oceans from Colon on the west coast to Panama City to the east, the Panama Canal bridges the two worlds without having to traverse the infamous Cape of Good Hope around Chile by ships. The journey down through the canal and its impressive locks by cruise ship is a destination and unique cruise ship experience in itself.

Miraflores Visitors Center

Whilst stopping off on the Panama Canal, if you have the time, a trip to Casco Viejo is well worth the effort. Cartegena’s colonial quarter offers old Spanish squares and architecture dating back to the 16th century full of churches, towers, markets and classically Latin rambling streets with that dash of Spanish feel. Here you can visit the Castillo San Felipe de Barajas fortress and Palace of Inquisition historical museum. Lying on Columbia’s pacific coast, cruisers can also explore coral reefs just off the sandy beaches by snorkelling.
Things to do in Cartagena, Colombia:
Fortress
Built by the Spanish in 1536, Castillo San Felipe De Barajas underwent multiple expansions and dominates a large area of Cartagena’s city space. Guided tours of this magnificent structure are available, and a hike to the top provides stunning views of the city.
Historical Museum
Found in the El Centro area of Cartagena, The Palace of the Inquisition holds a grizzly history within its walls. The Spanish Inquisition carried out cruel means of punishment here, which is told through the museums exhibits including old traditional torture instruments.
Las Bóvedas
Located within the Old City, Las Bovedas grants incredible views of the Caribbean sea. Originally serving as dungeons, this fascinating structure showcasing the captivating history of the city comprises 47 arches and 23 domes.

Flamingo Gardens Wildlife Sanctuary
This non-profit park area is the place to go for some tranquil downtime as you explore the serene waterfalls and pools that are home to brightly plumed flamingos. The gardens are also home to rescued wildlife such as other birds and reptiles as well as boasting some giant tree species.
Riverwalk Arts and Entertainment District
Covering a 22-block area, this exciting part of downtown offers plenty to see and do from Garand Opera House, History Center, Art Museum and plenty of dining options and evening entertainment just a short distance from the cruise terminals.
Bonnet House Museum
A beautiful and historic house in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the Bonnet House is included on the American National Register of Historic Places. It was built by prominent artist Frederic Clay Bartlett and has picturesque architecture and a botanical garden.
