Circumnavigation of Japan's Fall Foliage from Kobe with Stay, 20 October 2025 (17 nights)

A popular animal and flower park, the centrally located Kobe Animal Kingdom opened its doors in 2006 and has since become one of the most visited attractions in the city. Home to an array of animals including lemurs and capybaras, children and adults alike will love exploring the Kobe Animal Kingdom.

A prominent Shinto shrine, Ikuta Jinja is one of the oldest shrines in Japan and features colourful pagodas, artworks and statues. A significant shrine that’s visited by thousands of locals and tourists each year, it’s host to an array of celebrations throughout the year.

A Shinto shrine established circa 200 in Kitakyushu, Mekari Shrine is visible from the Kanmon Straits; built by Empress Jingu after her visit during the legendary Korean invasion in the 3rd century, the shrine was built as thanks to the Kami. The structure we see today was built in 1767 by the Ogasawara clan, and the Mekari Shinji ritual is observed here every year for good luck.

This slender stretch of greenspace in Mimosusogawa Park, which is visible from the Kanmon Straits, features several statues representing the warring Heike and Genji clans – prominent clans who fought each other during a major sea battle in 1185 during the Genpei War. While legends vary on the number of ships and fighters involved, the Heike clan (which was known as the Taira clan) was decimated as a result and the Genji clan (known as the Minamoto clan) gained control of Japan as a result.

Opened in 1973, you’ll pass under Kanmon Bridge as you sail the Kanmon Straits. Among the world’s longest suspension bridges, stretching over 3,500 feet across the waterway, Kanmon Bridge connects Shimonoseki and Kitakyushu.

A prominent Buddhist temple in Busan, it was originally constructed in 1376. However, the original temple was destroyed in the Japanese invasions, leading to it having to be rebuilt in 1930. Built in 1973, the Diamond Tower stands at an impressive 120 metres tall and offers breathtaking views out over the city. With a panoramic viewpoint and a café at the top, alongside shops and galleries at its base, it’s often described as the top sight to see in Busan.

Celebrating the life of famed manga artist, Mizuki Shigeru, you’ll learn all about his iconic cartoons and his life at this fascinating yet extraordinary museum that’s located within easy reach of the city centre.

Surrounded by the remains of a coastal defence fortification, the Sakaidaiba park is a designated National Historic Site. Within this pretty park you’ll find a wooden lighthouse, hundreds of cherry blossom trees and other beautiful plant life.

A shinto shrine that’s located in the Shimane Prefecture, the Miho Shrine was created in 1813. With beautiful architecture, sculptures and other artworks surrounding it, the Miho Shrine is a tranquil and picturesque place to visit.

Situated in the heart of the city, the Akita Museum of Art boasts an array of artworks and has been a prominent and popular attraction since it opened its doors in 1967. The most iconic collection it has is the works of artist Tsuguharu Foujita.

Sensoji Temple, Tokyo's oldest temple, houses a statue of the goddess of mercy, Kannon. Sensoji is a must-see location in Japan, surrounded by imposing gates, a five-storey pagoda and the vibrant market of Nakamise Dori.
