Royal Princess Reviews
View Cruise DealsExcellent cruise around UK first class ship. Good food and entertainment Very good value for money on a late deal booking
I would not recommend this boat for the following reasons. Cabins:- we occupied a balcony cabin towards the rear of the ship. The balcony itself was extremely small and the cabin was also smaller than expected. The beds and linen were of poor quality as were bath towels, only toiletries supplied shampoo and shower gel. There are no stairs in the centre of this boat so if booking a central cabin be aware that you will have a long wait for lifts. Dining:- My main complaint was with reference to the Horizon Court Buffet. All crockery was melamine, no trays available. However, staff did serve tea/coffee in melamine mugs but milk jugs were not available and milk was served in another mug. Overall impression always hectic because of lack of alternative dining venue and like a school canteen. Afternoon tea, whilst quality was acceptable yet again no milk jugs and standard of service was poor. The main dining room was overall better than the buffet, but the menu lacked variety. Very few vegetables and far too much beef. Staff poorly trained. Library extremly small with vey few books, no card room and no quiet areas in which to relax. Entertainment:- Princess singers and dancers were better than normal on cruise ships and put on some good acts, Guest acts were average to good, In conclusion it would appear that cost cutting measures by Carnival/Princess have made this vessel a very down market product and not one to recommend or repeat
British cruisers must remember this is an American ship. Food is all meat and no vegetables, entertainment is bland and tours are hideously expensive - so book online with local coach companies who will meet the ship. Tips are levied at $11 per person per day. and waiters are always asking you to give them high ratings. The dress code is almost non existent. The ship is wonderful, the cabins spacious and all is very good value for money. Embarkation and disembarkation are easy despite the large numbers. If you are not very moblie check which ports you will have to tender ashore, particularly in northern ports at the beginning and end of the season when the weather can be rough.
The whole experience was well-organised and the facilities were generally first class. Our two quibbles would be- A. The food in the two formal restaurants (Portafino, Cresta) were trying to be a bit too 'gourmet' when the sheer number of meals they had to serve mitigated against that. although the meat/fish was general nicely cooked the accompanying vegetables were very variable in quality and all had a 'sameness' from being in very similar jus. B. Although the entertainment was a good standard on each night there was a predictable problem on the final night. The stand-out attraction was a show by crew members which very quickly filled all available seats in the theatre, this would have been OK but for the only night of the cruise there was no alternative attraction! This left a few hundred disgruntled passengers.
Brilliant ship , had a fantastic time , can't wait to do it again . Can't find 1 fault .
Excellent excellent excellent, can't think of one negative thing about this ship , crew , food , entertainment . Cant wait to go on it again.
This ship excels in all areas.
We sailed on Royal Princess on 9th Dec from Fort Lauderdale on 10 night Eastern Caribbean cruise. This was our first ever cruise, but our friends who travelled with us are Platinum customers and have also sailed with other cruise lines. We all agreed that this ship and all its crew excelled themselves. We really feel that to criticise this ship is unfair and unreasonable. From the moment we embarked and departed, all aspects ran smoothly and efficiently, the attention to detail is staggering. The ship is immaculate, food is fab, entertainment good enough to be on Broadway. Our balcony cabin E424 was all we could ask for - spotless and more spacious than we hoped for. We heard some people complain that the ship is difficult to get around. We say that is their fault for being poor on sense of direction! The ship is HUGE, so what do you expect?! We never felt crowded, despite the ship carrying capacity passengers. You are a snob if you find fault with this ship! As far as we are concerned, the entire Royal Family would be happy to sail on this ship. All the staff work so very hard and deserve praise. We spent 10 nights being treated like royalty. Life will never be the same again!
This was our first time onboard the Royal Princess and we enjoyed it thoroughly. There were some negative points though which I will explain, we found our balcony too small but from chatting with other guests this was not a problem in their case. There were positioned in the middle of the ship, we were not :( The internet was really slow and not worth bothering with. The food was okay, better on some nights than others. The fast food was also okay, in that I mean hot dogs and hamburgers. Have to admit the pizza at Alfredo's was amazing and would recommend the calzone. My friend and I enjoyed the Lotus Spa for the hot tub and beauty treatments. It was fun to see the photo gallery and the change in us as the cruise went on lol. The staff were lovely and made the cruise. We enjoyed the entertainment, the dancing, singing, ballet, magicians and comedians. We didn't catch many movies as we did not fancy the titles that were on while we were traveling although one day we did catch Superman, an old favourite, one day and enjoyed watching it on the outside deck on the marvelous big screen but it was cold. The talks were interesting especially about Google as have been fascinated with the internet for many years. We also enjoyed the stock market talk and a talk on the different roles on the Princess cruises. It was so interesting to hear this from a staff point of view. In relation to the staff, we found them very pleasant, from our cabin steward who attended to our every request almost immediately to our waiters in the various restaurants. We enjoyed the shows and spent time in the Princess Live theater where Lisa, the cruise director got a lot of the passengers involved and was really friendly. The TV shows were amusing and love the Princess Live idea, it really sets the scene. A great asset to Princess. On that note, we also enjoyed watching the shows back especially the Mr & Mrs show in which some of our friends participated! Have to say the library was a non-entity. Blink and you will miss it. The Vista Lounge was great for entertainment and also enjoyed listening to the band in the Wheelhouse. If you are not scared of heights you will enjoy the Seawalk, some great views but can make you feel a little dizzy. Love all the new tea flavors and the Piazza is a pleasure to sit in and listen / watch the various performers. Try the gelato but stay away from the internet if you value your time. It was too slow for us.
Earlier this year we watched the tv programme about the Royal Princess and were amazed at the poor picture the programme painted of the ship and its crew. Despite this ( as we had already booked ) we joined the ship in Fort Lauderdale for a ten night cruise of the Western Caribbean at the end of November. The check in procedure was smooth and efficient. Once onboard our state rooms were ready for occupation. We had chosen the option of "any time dining" and made use of all but one of the dining rooms. In each one the food was excellent and the staff were friendly and efficient - nothing was too much trouble. Throughout the cruise we found this was true of all the staff. There was a wide variety of entertainment on offer throughout the day providing something for all tastes.Uu The sanctuary, available for adults only, was a delight. We hope to join the ship again soon.
