Things to see:
Hoodoos
Striking rock formations millions of years in the making, the Hoodoos can be spotted along the Rocky Mountaineer route near Banff; shaped by centuries of wind and water erosion, and standing an impressive five to seven meters tall, these sandstone pillars rise dramatically from the surrounding landscape and add to the scenic beauty of the Canadian Rockies.
Craigellachie
A quaint village in British Columbia, Craigellachie is the historic site where the last spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven into the ground in 1885 – an act marking the completion of Canada’s first transcontinental railroad.
Kinbasket Lake
Nestled in the Canadian Rockies, Kinbasket Lake is a vast, serene reservoir known for its stunning mountain views; a popular spot for activities like camping and fishing, you’ll enjoy fantastic views of this stunning slice of British Columbia from the comfort of your Rocky Mountaineer carriage.
Kicking Horse River
Named in 1858 when, reportedly, explorer James Hector was kicked by his packhorse while exploring the river, the Kicking Horse River is renowned for its powerful rapids and vibrant turquoise waters; winding through the Canadian Rockies, this river offers thrilling whitewater rafting experiences alongside the breathtaking scenery you’ll enjoy on your journey.
Spiral Tunnels
First opened in 1909, the Spiral Tunnels are an engineering marvel and a true highlight of this Rocky Mountaineer route; a series of twisting tunnels and dramatic loops navigating the steep slopes of the Canadian Rockies, this remarkable route allows trains to safely ascend and descend the rugged terrain of the Kicking Horse Pass and Yoho National Park.
Castle Mountain
Dominating the rugged landscape surrounding Banff, Castle Mountain is a dramatic – and iconic – feature of the Canadian Rockies; with castle-like peaks lending themselves to its striking silhouette, the summit of this staggering sight is over 9,000 ft high.

Dietary Restrictions
Rocky Mountaineer can accommodate various dietary restrictions and preferences, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free. However, it’s important to inform the company directly of any dietary restrictions at the time of booking – or, at least 60 days prior to travel – to ensure that appropriate meal arrangements are made.
It’s also recommended that you complete a Rocky Mountaineer Food Allergy Form, and then send it to your travel professional or Rocky Mountaineer directly, if you suffer from any food allergies.
Accessibility
Rocky Mountaineer is committed to making its trains accessible, but there are some limitations you need to be aware of if you’re a wheelchair user or someone with mobility issues.
Passengers with mobility issues or other accessibility needs should inform Rocky Mountaineer in advance to arrange for suitable accommodations. While trains are designed to be accessible, the availability of certain features or services may vary depending on your individual situation.
For passengers who can transfer from a wheelchair to a seat, a hydraulic lift will be available to transfer you onto the train in your own wheelchair – which must be 23-inches (or less) wide – and then you will be transferred to a 15-inch-wide wheelchair onboard – which will allow you to navigate the aisles in the railcar freely.
For passengers using wheelchairs full-time, Rocky Mountaineer can accommodate using tie-downs – though there are a limited number of rail coaches with tie-down features and their availability may limit the travel dates available to you.
Tips and Gratuities
To make your journey seamless, gratuities for your Onboard Hosts and culinary team members have already been included in your package price.
Service Upgrade
Rocky Mountaineer packages are based on the available SilverLeaf Service as standard, but can be upgraded to GoldLeaf Service if requested.
With GoldLeaf Service, you’ll enjoy a journey on a bi-level Rocky Mountaineer coach with a dining room and outdoor viewing platform. Meanwhile, with SilverLeaf Service, you’ll travel on a single-level coach with meals and beverages served directly to your seat (something that is also available with GoldLeaf Service).
Insurance
If you choose to travel to Canada, and on Rocky Mountaineer, it’s important that you get appropriate travel insurance for your itinerary, any planned activities, and any medical expenses you may require in an emergency.

Things to see:
Cisco Crossing
A pair of railroad bridges at Siska, which was historically known as Cisco, the proximity of the two bridges to one another is unusual – making it a popular sightseeing spot with railway enthusiasts; though, the rugged slopes down to the rushing waters of the Fraser River make it a sight worth seeing for everyone.
Black Canyon
Formed over five million years ago, this impressive formation of narrow rock gorges extends over 170 miles in totality and perfectly captures the rugged landscape this area of British Columbia is known for.

Standing an impressive 8,074 ft in the Canadian Cascades, this remarkable mountain is just one of several peaks you’ll be able to admire on your Rocky Mountaineer journey through British Columbia from Kamloops to Vancouver.
Sasquatch Provincial Park
Named after the cryptid rumoured to be endemic to the area, this provincial park is characterised by a series of pocket lakes, rich birch-tree forests, and scenic mountain ridges.

We had a very good time and loved the Queen Elizabeth. The crew were very pleasant and our cabin was very well looked after. We also felt the ship was not overcrowded unlike some other cruises we have been on. We thought Iglu did an excellent job of organising our holiday, which was not just a cruise but also a visit to the Niagara Falls. All the hotels and transfers were very good.

On this particular route, you’ll be taken on a scenic adventure through the heart of the Canadian Rockies – famous for its towering mountains with dramatic ice-capped peaks – with luscious forests and crystal-clear lakes complimenting the views you’ll enjoy during this day of sightseeing in comfort. While aboard Rocky Mountaineer, you’ll be afforded the opportunity to marvel at iconic sights such as the Spiral Tunnels, the Continental Divide, and the dramatic Kicking Horse Canyon. A train ride designed for comfort and luxury, featuring large panoramic windows that provide you with uninterrupted views of the natural wonders found in this region, this comprehensive experience comes complete with gourmet meals throughout the day and attentive service from station to station. Awaken your senses with a bite to eat and a warm coffee in the morning, admire the staggering beauty of the mountains stretching up into the skies with lunch, and relish in the serene lake views of the Shuswap Region as you approach Kamloops in the afternoon. This journey is perfect for those seeking a memorable and leisurely way to explore the majestic beauty of Western Canada; it’s without a doubt one of the best ways to travel through this part of the world.
