Cruise itinerary

Day Port Due Depart
1-2 Fly from the UK
2 Melbourne
3-4 At Sea
5 Milford Sound
6 Dunedin
Dunedin
Located on the Otago Peninsula on the South Island of New Zealand, the bustling city of Dunedin has strong links to Scotland in terms of history and architecture -- so much so that its name means "Edinburgh" in Scottish Gaelic. This port city is becoming quite popular with cruise-ship passengers, thanks to a compact city center, interesting museums and galleries, chocolate-focused Cadbury World, fresh seafood at a variety of restaurants and several interesting shore excursion options.
7 Christchurch
Christchurch
Christchurch is the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand, and the country's second-largest urban area. It lies one third of the way down the South Island's east coast, just north of Banks Peninsula which itself, since 2006, lies within the formal limits of Christchurch.
8 Wellington
Wellington
New Zealand’s capital and cruise port Wellington, is blessed with a wonderful setting, overlooking a glittering harbour filled with bobbing sailing boats. Behind the gleaming modern skyscrapers of its centre, you will find the city’s history well preserved in some outstanding old buildings – notably the old Government Building, built in 1876, which is the second-largest wooden building in the world.
9 Napier
10 At Sea
11 Auckland
Auckland
New Zealand’s biggest city and major cruise port, Auckland, sits between the Pacific Ocean and Tasman Sea, which is how it came to host the America’s Cup twice - in 1999 and 2002 - attracting investment to transform the harbourside into a superb meeting and eating place which all visitors can now appreciate. ]The Viaduct Harbour area now boasts outdoor restaurants ideally placed to view the hundreds of yachts attracted to this icon of sailing success. This ‘City of Sails’ is also home to New Zealand’s impressive National Maritime Museum which charts the nation’s seafaring history.
12 Bay of Islands
Bay of Islands
The Bay of Islands region is New Zealand’s finest maritime park and comprises 144 islands and myriad bays and beaches around the coastline. The Bay, with its subtropical climate and pristine natural environment, has an abundance of marine life, including the big marlin, whales, penguins, dolphins, gannets and many other species. And although it’s an aquatic playground for adventure activities and escapist relaxation, much of Northlands extensive coastline remains unspoilt.

Ship decor is firmly 1930s style which makes it look old-fashioned and over-ornate. Cabins are roomy & comfortable with plenty of wardrobe space and hangers! There is a firm dress policy, which was off-putting to us, but popular with others who enjoy being told to dress up - or else go elsewhere (the buffet) to eat. Restaurant food emphasis is on silver service, not the quality of the food. Buffet (our main dining option) food was disappointing, often poor, barely warm and badly presented. It compares very poorly with Celebrity cruises (for instances) food-wise. I also got food poisoning from something I ate ... not pleasant. The ship’s medical team went into overdrive, thinking it was norovirus (it wasn’t). Very poor WiFi, satellite TV patchy. The usual activities & entertainments for those seeking such things. The launderettes were, apparently, more popular than the casino! We went on this cruise for the locations visited, and were not let down in this.

Firs cruise ever and it was amazing! The product itself and the service were splendid. Only slight hmmm was that some of the food in the buffet could have been warmer - but then it was a buffet. Otherwise - one of life's best experiences and well done to all staff.

This short cruise was with a large group of friends and we were all very much looking forward to it. Everything was pretty much as expected from previous cruises, the stateroom was beautifully appointed and clean, the food was superb but what was different on this cruise was the crew. They appeared disengaged and uninterested in the customer. The service was fair, but many of the staff seemed very unhappy and appeared as though they didn’t want to be there. It was such a shame. I am on the Queen Mary 2 in 5 weeks time so it will be interesting to see how this cruise differs. I am sincerely hoping for a more friendly, customer focussed crew.
