Britannia Reviews
View Cruise DealsWe enjoyed our cruise on this new ship, to the Fjords of Norway. We loved the decor throughout, particularly the stunning Atrium area, although disappointed that the food available in the Market Cafe was all at a supplement - understand it was celebrity chef food, but it would have been good to have had options that were not an extra cost. I agree with other reviews that the rooms and balcony are smaller than on other ships. but in our opinion this was not a problem. Our cabin steward was brilliant and dealt with all our needs in a very friendly and efficient way . Loved having tea and coffee making facilities in the cabin. Bathroom was larger than we have had before, and in particular the shower cubicle - so much better, with a glass screen, and the shower itself was really good. We loved the food in the Freedom Dining Peninsular Restaurant - service was efficient, although some staff were a bit 'off hand'. We never had to queue - but we were always happy to share a table. Quality and choice was very good, both for breakfast and evening meal. We used the Horizon Buffet a few times, and were impressed by the variety available, and the layout was a huge improvement from other ships. We never had a problem finding a seat. We would highly recommend paying the extra ÂŁ28 per person for a meal in the Epecurien Restaurant - well worth the supplement! The same goes for the ÂŁ20 supplement for Sindhu too. Both these restaurants were great value for money and the food/service/atmosphere was amazing. We found the wine packages were good value for money, and all wines offered were good quality. We have seen reviews regarding the lifts - personally we didn't have a problem, and never had to wait long - but we can see that people with mobility problems and wheelchair users could find that the lack of lifts midship and size of those available could be an issue. The shows we saw were excellent - and it was particularly good to see The Overtones. Issues regarding the size of the theatre seem to be being addressed by holding 3 shows a night, but The Overtones were very popular. We have experienced problems on other ships with larger theatres, so I think it's just a case of getting there early. We can't rate shore excursions - as we have been to the Fjords before we decided to 'do our own thing'. We don't tend to participate in onboard activities - we prefer to sit somewhere quietly to read - either on our balcony, weather permitting, or we chose to sit in the Crows Nest on this cruise, where you can buy drinks and watch the progress of the ship with the panoramic windows. Only negatives we experienced (apart from the Market Cafe) - staff not being organised to issue tickets for going on shore via tenders, - obviously this hadn't been thought through, and someone needed to be there to 'manage' it from the start. Passengers were getting very irate. Hopefully lessons have been learnt. It would be nice to have bedside lights in the cabins. This was our first cruise with P & O, but we thoroughly enjoyed it, and hope to cruise with them again in the future.
Have just returned from an excellent cruise to The canaries on Britannia. So many positives from the friendliness of the staff, the quality of the food, the decor and artwork are fantastic. There are so many nooks and crannies where you can find peace and quiet. The crows nest is a very special lounge. The Horizon self service restaurant on deck 16 was very well laid out and the quality and variety of food was excellent. We dined in the Peninsula restaurant where attention to a food allergy was first class. Some negatives as the lifts are inadequate to move the number of people on board. The two main entertainment venues are too small and get filled well in advance of a performance. The cabins and balconies are smaller that we have been used to on The Azura. However having said that,  All in all it was an excellent cruise holidayÂ
We have just returned from a cruise on Britannia, and it was a great experience. There is absolutely nothing to complain about as everything was super, staff, entertainment and food was first class.
Whilst this was a new ship and the decor was new we found that the cabin space was less than on celebrity eclipse and the balconies were much smaller. The restaurant staff seemed most unhappy and this fed back to the passengers. The food in the Oriental restaurant was not that good and we had to send back on two occasions. The ship stuck strictly to the printed menus and when asked for anything other than was printed on the menus we were told was unavailable. This is in stark contrast to other lines like Holland and Celebrity. On the plus side P&O have made the horizon restaurant much bigger and the choice was improved to their sister line Princess whose buffet areas are very small
Beautiful ship.
A beautiful ubpnderstated large ship with the space I enjoy. Â There isn't much of a wow factor but I liked the relaxing decor It is very British with Briodies being like a social club Good entertainment and artists. Â Food was excellent Balcony cabin well laid out Small shower room and balcony but adequate Staff efficient Didn't find the Officers that friendly and only really saw them at the cocktail party briefly after a welcome by the captain Cabin staff excellent Nice relaxing cruise to Norway Well done P and O
Well done P&O. Britannia is a lovely ship. Embarkation was exceptionally well organised and we went straight to the cabin. The buffet restaurant was designed with repeated stations on islands and this worked well. I never found it too busy, always able to get a seat. The speciality restaurants were worth visiting. Sindhu was our favourite. I didn't enjoy the food as much as the food on Celebrity, but many people said the food in the main restaurants was good. Extra costs did seem common. Coffee and cakes in the Market Cafe for two cost over ten pounds. The glass house had charges for food and the beach house had a ÂŁ5 cover charge. (TGI Friday type food). The costa coffee venue one floor up allowed one free food item per coffee. The spa is lovely. Entertainment was good. Only issue is for the big acts you needed to get a seat at least 30 minutes prior to the start. Cabins compact but lively and the TV and in room entertainment best I have experienced. Shore excursions, shuttles etc well organised. Staff efficient and helpful. Library excellent. Not the easiest ship to find your way around, and perhaps best avoided if you have any walking difficulties. Children's facilities looked great and I would happily return with extended family.
Starting with the good things The Cabin Steward was wonderful. Kept our cabin pristine and nothing was too much trouble for him. Brilliant service. Our inside cabin was fine, the larger shower was a big improvement with a glass door. The shows in the Headliner Theatre were excellent visually though I found the loud volume distorted the backing music and singing quality. The embarkation and disembarking process was efficient and quick. The food and service was very good in the restaurants, the self service café was often too full. The lifeboat muster was dreadful and proved to almost everyone present that in case of an emergency very few would make it off safely. At busy times the lifts were at best inadequate for the number of people. Those in wheelchairs often had to wait 40 minutes or more to access a lift. Lifts were too few and too small. The ship in my opinion lacks the presence of the other ships in the fleet, the décor is dark, drab and uninviting and everything seems organised to make as much money as possible from every passenger. The shops in the main sold only designer labelled goods apart from the over priced tat in the souvenir shop. Didn't care for the shared entrance to the public toilets, an opinion shared with other women and men. The Quizzes were all very good but the activities we enjoy on other ships such as carpet bowls, crazy golf, darts etc were not available and other activities were not hosted. Passengers did not participate in friendly games because they do not like organising other passengers - they need a member of the entertainment crew to do this. Unless you wanted to pay to use various facilities, reading, Sudoku and Ipad games were all that were left. Sorry P&O, I was expecting to be wowed and was disappointed instead.
Just off britannia Norway fjords cruise. Everything first class from food, staff, accommodation and entertainment. Scenery on excursions stunning with good informative commentary from the tour guides. All very well organised. Super holiday!
Loved Britannia. Décor modern, clean and stylish. Much bigger than Ventura but only 350 more passengers so tons of space everywhere. Main pool area is large, with two bars and great food outlets. Busy and noisy though, so particularly liked adult only quiet zone, top front of ship with its own large pool, bar and comfy seating, sunbeds, etc. Also quiet areas at back of ship. Buffet enormous and well designed with good choice and quality of food. Comfy, stylish stateroom with large TV (same layout as Ventura). Bathroom compact but with proper shower door! Balcony quite small but adequate for me as I travel on my own. Only problem is the lifts which are small and slow and not properly programmed. No problem for me but not designed for wheelchair users, etc. A lovely ship which has now overtaken the Eclipse as my favourite.
