On a peninsula in the Austurland area of eastern Iceland, close to the island of Papey and on the Berufjörur fjord, is the small settlement and former municipality of Djupivogur. On October 1, 1992, the rural settlements of Berunes, Buland, and Geithellur merged to form the municipality. A picturesque town that's full of charm and extraordinary attractions, it makes for a wonderful stop off whilst on your cruise.
Things to do in Djupivogur:
Gallery Freevilli
Whilst in Djupivogur, head to the Gallery Freevilli - a significant art gallery in the town that’s housed in a vibrant red building. Full of arts and crafts made from things found on the shore (including objects made out of fish skeletons), this unique and free gallery is worth a visit.
Bóndavarða
Situated on a hill on the outskirts of the town, the Bondavaroa offers incredible views out towards the surrounding fjord. A fun and picturesque hiking trail, the view that you’ll be granted with from the observation deck is great for those wanting to see all the local landmarks.
Djúpivogur Mural
Located in the heart of the town, the colourful Djupivogur Mural makes for a great photo opportunity whilst stopping off in the town and is a significant local attraction.
Akureyri

The town of Akureyri, sometimes known as "The Capital of the North," is located in North Iceland's Eyjafjörur fjord. It is about 62 miles (100 km) from the Arctic Circle, and is the second-largest urban area in Iceland, home to roughly 19,500 people. There are several attractions in this picturesque town, from the Akureyri Botanical Gardens to the Akureyri Museum and Zipline that soars high above a river.

Akureyri Botanical Gardens
Opened in 1957, the Akureyri Botanical Gardens is situated within the Eyjafjord, and has an array of greenery, from trees to perennials and shrubs. A beautiful park to wall around, it’s ideal if you’re looking for a relaxing activity during your stop off in the port town.
Akureyri Museum
Within easy reach of the centre, the Akureyri Museum portrays the life of past inhabitants of the area, from photographs to artefacts. Offering two permanent exhibitions showcasing the ‘early times’, this extraordinary museum will transport you back in time and immerse you into the culture of Iceland.
Akureyri Zipline
If you’re looking for an activity that’s exhilarating from start to finish, look no further than the zipline. Situated in northwest Iceland, Isafjörður is a quaint town that’s beloved for its awe-inspiring landscapes. Not only does it feature historic and colourful wooden houses that date back to the 18th and 19th century, but a wide selection of attractions including the Bunarfoss waterfall, Arctic Fox Centre and the Naustahvilft hiking trail. The perfect place to capture breathtaking photographs, Isafjörður is a wonderful stop-off whilst on a cruise.

Westfjord History Museum

Situated in southern Greenland, Qaqortoq lies between picturesque fjords. A colourful town, it’s home to an array of 18th century colonial buildings and has several prominent attractions, such as the Qaqortoq Museum and Tele Museum which exhibit an array of collections showcasing the history of Greenland. There is also a vibrant harbour that offers delicious local cuisine and more. For those that want to enjoy hikes during their time there, there are trails that lead through the mountains.

Qaqortoq Museum
Located close to the main square, the Qaqortoq Museum is housed in one of the most historic buildings in the town. Exhibiting an array of artefacts from hunting equipment to Norse dresses and Inuit boats, it’s a unique attraction that’s hugely significant in displaying the town’s history.
Tele Museum
Another prominent museum in Qaqortoq is the Tele Museum. Showcasing the history of Greenland, and all that has occurred since the arrival of Hans Ede in 1732, the exhibits and artefacts within the museum are simply fascinating.
Qaqortoq Harbour
When you arrive in Qaqortoq, make sure to spend time exploring the picturesque harbour, surrounded by beautiful hillsides. Filled with local cuisine, kayaking opportunities and hiking trails that begin in the harbour, it’s the best place to start your adventure in the town.
Nanortalik

Beloved for its picturesque surroundings, colourful houses and hiking trails, Nanortalik in Greenland is situated on a small island on the edge of the Tasermiut Fjord. With just over 1000 inhabitants, it’s the 11 largest town in Greenland. With a name that means ‘the place where the polar bears go’, Nanortalik has a variety of attractions and landmarks to visit, including the open air museum, a community centre and a vibrant fish market.

Nanortalik Museum
The Nanortalik Museum is a wonderfully positioned open-air museum that encompasses nearly all of the nearby buildings, the majority of which are utilised as showrooms. It is located in the ancient colonial port district. The museum's trading buildings near the harbour serve as an illustration of how settlers came to the area.
Nanortalik Church
Situated in the old colonial quarter, Nanortalik church is a Danish Lutheran church constructed out of wood. The only serving church in the town, it was built in the early 20th century and is full of charm.
Cape Farewell
Whilst stopping off in Nanortalik, you can take a boat trip out to Cape Farewell. An incredibly picturesque sight, it’s surrounded by snow-capped mountains and is home to a variety of wildlife.

Cape Spear Lighthouse
Cape Spear Lighthouse, built in 1836, is a spectacular illustration of the distinctive lighthouse design of the time. The oldest surviving lighthouse in the province, a National Historic Site, and an iconic representation of Newfoundland and Labrador's maritime heritage, it is perched on a craggy cliff at the most easterly point of the continent.
Cabot Tower
Located on Signal Hill, Cabot Tower was built in 1898. Commemorating the 400th year anniversary of the discovery of Newfoundland by John Cabot, it’s a small fortress that dominates the skyline and overlooks the ocean.
Quidi Vidi Brewery
A must visit for any beer enthusiast, Quidi Vidi Brewery offers craft beers within a former fish plant. A popular tourist destination, it was founded in 1196 and is the third largest brewery in Newfoundland. With a variety of unique beers on offer (including one that uses water from an iceberg), it’s a vibrant brewery within the city.

As Nova Scotia’s capital, Halifax has a great balance between trendy, urban city adventures and a plethora of water-sports, hiking and mountain-biking. Halifax Citadel National Historic Site

Maritime Museum of the Atlantic
Located in lively downtown Halifax, this museum dedicated to all things seagoing is a fascinating journey into the town’s relationship with the ocean, boasting 30,000 pieces on display including no less than 70 vessels, such as the famous SS Acadia steamship.
Halifax Public Gardens
In 1867, the year of Canadian Confederation, the Halifax Public Gardens were created. They are public gardens from the Victorian era and are situated across from Victoria Park in Halifax, Nova Scotia, next to Spring Garden Road, a well-known retail area. Full of beautiful plants, including fragrant flowers, it's a lovely place to wander around when stopping off in Halifax.

Fifth Avenue
Located in Manhattan, Fifth Avenue boasts Museum Mile where visitors find the African Art Museum, Guggenheim Museum, the Met and more, while other landmarks include the Empire State building, the Rockefeller Observation Deck and Flatiron Building.
National September 11 Memorial and Museum
Located at the World Trade Centre site, the 9/11 Memorial and Museum commemorates the lives lost during the terrorist attacks in 1993 and 2001. The memorial consists of two reflecting pools, while the museum offers tours, exhibitions and multimedia displays.
New York Public Library
